Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many parts of the world, private cars have become essential means of transportation. Although, relying on cars povide convenience and freedom, excessive dependence on it can result into detrimental effects on envirenment, health and quality of life. In my opinion, negative effects tends to outweigh the positive advantages.

To commense with, private cars can make daliy life considerably more convenient. People can directly travel to thier worklplace, educational institue and other destinations directly wuthout depending on public transportation schedules. Moreover, people can save more time and experience flexibility while traveling to areas with less public transportation connectivity, for families who need to carry thier child and heavy groceries. Consequently, traveling in a private car can result in better mobility and make everyday life more efficient.

However, on the other hand, excessive reliance on cars can create several major problems. One major concern is environmental degradation, as fuel powered vehicles release carbon emissions and contribute to air pollution. Furthermore, heavy dependence on private vehicle results in to traffic congestion specially in metro cities that have more population. As a result, people may spend considerable more time in communiting whioch can increase thier stress and reduce thier overall quality of life. For instance, in cities where public transportation connectivity is limited, people often have little choice but to drive, resulting into congested roads during peak hours. Therefore, although cars offers greater convenience, their excessive use can be detrimental to both environment, health and overall quality of life.

To conclude, private cars provide flexibility, convenience and saves commuting time particularly for people living in areas with limited public transportation. Nevertheless, excessive use of them can contribute to pollution, congestion and stress. Taking everything into consideration, I believe the negative effects are more significant and greater use of sustainable transportation should be encouraged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: it explains how cars affect daily life and clearly judges the overall effects to be negative. The position is consistent from the introduction through the conclusion. Relevant benefits—convenience, flexibility and access to places with limited public transport—are balanced against pollution, congestion and stress. The example of peak-hour congestion helps illustrate the argument, although it remains general rather than showing a specific place or experience. Some effects, particularly the links between car use, health and quality of life, are asserted more than fully explained. To strengthen the response further, develop one or two consequences with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation or a more concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to benefits, drawbacks and a conclusion. Ideas progress logically within the body paragraphs, and the final paragraph restates the position and summarises the main effects. Cohesive expressions such as “Moreover,” “As a result” and “For instance” help signal relationships between points. At times, however, linking is somewhat mechanical or repetitive: “However, on the other hand” uses two contrast markers together, and “Therefore” follows a sentence that already draws a conclusion. The example also repeats the point about limited public transport and congestion rather than adding much new detail. Use transitions more selectively and make references between sentences more concise to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response uses an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “environmental degradation,” “carbon emissions,” “traffic congestion,” “flexibility” and “sustainable transportation.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the writer attempts some less common expressions. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, as in “povide,” “envirenment,” “commensing” and “communiting.” There are also awkward or inaccurate collocations, including “result into detrimental effects,” “more population” and “considerable more time.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Focus on accurate spelling and learn common word partnerships, such as “result in,” “densely populated cities” and “considerably more time,” before attempting more elaborate vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although relying on cars provides convenience…” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As a result.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction. For example, “negative effects tends” should use a plural verb, while “private vehicle results” needs a plural subject or a matching singular construction. In “cars offers greater convenience,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “both environment, health and overall quality of life” needs more accurate article and list construction. The opening “Although” clause is also punctuated awkwardly. Review agreement and article use, then proofread complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly connected.
