Student answer (Band 6.0)

In several countries, private cars are the most reliable means of transportation. I believe, although travelling by private cars can be convenient, it causes environmental damage which can be seen as a major negative impact. This essay will discuss some negative effects of using private cars on people's life.

One major negative effect of travelling by private cars is environment pollution. This is mainly because if almost all people travel by private vehicles in place of public transportation, it may lead to traffic congestion. When roads are all full of vehicles, it can contribute to air pollution because of the gas released by the vehicles. As a result, it may create serious ecological problems such as global warming and respiratory issues. Therefore, it is suggested that citizens should use private cars only in emergency situation and prefer public transportation for everyday commute.

Another significant impact of relying on private cars is that it is likely to increase the possibilty of accidents. Since several immature drivers drive cars even without passing the driving tests, they may put their as well as others' life in danger. For instance, many under 18 teenagers today drive cars without getting driving license. They do reckless driving just to get thrill which ultimately leads to severe road accidents. Thus, governments should make strict laws in the transportation field.

In conclusion, even though travelling by private can make people's journey comfortable, it may contribute to serious environmental issues such as air pollution and health implications.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you acknowledge convenience but judge the overall effects negatively, and you discuss environmental harm and accident risks. However, the task asks broadly how car reliance affects the way people live, and your response focuses mainly on two harms without explaining everyday effects such as independence, commuting time, or access to services. The environmental paragraph gives a cause-and-effect chain, but the accident point is less fully supported: the example about teenagers driving illegally is narrow and does not establish how widespread this effect is. The conclusion repeats the environmental point and does not bring the two main effects together. The response is also two words below the required minimum. Develop both sides of the question more fully and add a relevant, specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each body paragraph has a central focus, and signposting such as “One major negative effect,” “Another significant impact,” and “In conclusion” helps the reader follow the progression. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent organisation and shows some of the clearer progression associated with the next level. However, the linking is somewhat formulaic, with “Therefore” and “Thus” mainly marking predictable conclusions rather than developing relationships between ideas. The final paragraph also returns only to environmental harm, leaving the accident discussion unintegrated. Use more varied links and refer back to earlier points so the conclusion reflects the full argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “traffic congestion,” “ecological problems,” “respiratory issues,” and “reckless driving.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some more specific vocabulary rather than relying entirely on basic terms. At this level, however, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “environment pollution” is better expressed as “environmental pollution,” “possibilty” is misspelled, and “get thrill” is not a natural phrase. “Transportation field” is also vague in the context of laws. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, especially for environmental impacts, road safety, and public policy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although travelling by private cars can be convenient” and a conditional structure beginning “if almost all people travel.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, and errors rarely obstruct the argument. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain: “people’s life” needs a plural form, “emergency situation” needs an article or plural, and “their as well as others’ life” requires clearer plural agreement. The phrase “travelling by private” also omits the noun “car” in the conclusion. Continue practising articles, plural forms, and parallel constructions, then proofread each sentence for missing words. More accurate control of these patterns would make the complex sentences sound more natural.
