Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, the way of using transportation has been completely changed. People are using their private vehicles like cars for everyday's tranportation and becoming a habitual of this mode of travelling and this reliance totally impacting their lifestyle. Obeviously, this trend has deterimental effects on human life. This essay will examine the viewpoints and provide relevant examples to support the opinion in upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, excessive use private cars for everyday transportation leads to adverse effects on environment because every person use their own motorcar to tavel to small distance which will become main cause of air pollution by emitting carbon dioxide in atmosphere and affecting the quality of breathable air. For example, recently reported news showed that the 15% of Ozone layer has been affected by pollution from transportation since last decade. Apart from this, over reliance on cars for travelling is leading to the adverse health issues because cars are completely eliminating the need to walk to short distance which reduced the physical activity. For example, in past times people were very healthy and used to face less health issues because they used to do a lot of physical activity due to limited mode of travelling, they used to walk to short destinations.

On the other hand, cars are quite useful mode of travelling if people use them wisely because they are very convenient, source of time-saving, and helpful in harsh weather conditions. Individual should use for long distances, where they have limitation of public transportation. Moreover, instead of using cars separately, people should do car-pooling for every office commuting and for other social destinations,

To conclude, it is quite apparent from above-mentioned information that cars are excellent mode of trasportation but if people use them wisely because excessive use could lead to various adversing affects for human health like obesity due to less physical activity and numerous diseases from air pollution emitted by cars.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you judge reliance on cars to have mainly negative effects, while acknowledging their convenience. You address both parts of the question by discussing environmental and health consequences and then noting benefits such as saving time and helping in harsh weather. The examples about emissions and reduced walking are relevant, but the health comparison with people in the past is broad and would be stronger with a specific, explained example. The positive side is less developed: car-pooling and using cars for longer journeys are recommendations rather than detailed explanations of how car reliance affects daily life. To strengthen the response, extend both sides with concrete consequences and explain their significance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting effects, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” make the overall direction easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical, and the second body paragraph ends with a comma, leaving its final recommendation unfinished. The conclusion repeats the main health and pollution points but does not clearly bring together the contrast between benefits and harms. Some references, such as “this trend” and “above-mentioned information,” are general rather than precise. Use complete paragraph endings and link each example directly to the point it supports to make progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “air pollution,” “carbon dioxide,” “physical activity,” “convenient,” and “car-pooling,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “adverse effects” and “harsh weather conditions.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural: “a habitual,” “breathable air,” “adversing affects,” and “everyday’s transportation” are examples. Several phrases are also repetitive, particularly references to “use” and “cars.” Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking spelling and word forms, while varying expressions such as “private vehicles,” “driving,” and “car use.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because” and “which,” and most of the intended meaning can be followed. However, control is uneven, especially in longer sentences. For example, “People are using their private vehicles … and becoming a habitual … and this reliance totally impacting their lifestyle” combines clauses without a complete, consistent verb structure. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms, as in “every person use” and “which reduced the physical activity.” The sentence beginning “Individual should use for long distances” is incomplete because the object of “use” is missing. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and checking that each sentence has a complete main clause before adding extra information.
