Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been a lot of controversial debate regarding the use of private vehicles for transportation. Many believe that its more convenient and time saving. While some argue that public transportation is cheaper and more environment friendly option. I agree that private cars have negative effects on environment.
To begin with, Private cars are the biggest source of air pollution. Their engine emit smoke with harmful chemicals and pollute air. The quality index of air is significantly reduced in the cities where people use more cars. Furthermore, smog decreases visibilty index too. Noise pollution is another adverse affect of more traffic that leads to stress and anxiety disorder.
Moreover, respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, asthma and bronchitis are more common in cities because of recent surge in traffic load due to private vehicles. While buses and train can transport many pessengers using less energy. Fewer private vehicles on road can improve traffic flow.
Additionally, buses and trains are cost effective and reduce extra expenses such as fuel and parking charges.
On the other hand, with the private vehicles, one can travel anywhere anytime and do not have to follow strict schedule of buses and train. Family can enjoy private trips with more comfort.
In conclusion, I believe that private vehicle have more adverse affects on our lives in terms of physical and mental well being. Goverment should introduce more public transportation options especially for remote area. With a little caution and sensible legislation, we can save planet from air pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you consider the effects of car reliance mainly negative, while acknowledging convenience and comfort. You address several relevant effects on daily life, including pollution, health, stress, traffic flow and travel costs, and the examples of buses and trains help make the comparison relevant. This covers both questions, but the discussion is uneven: environmental and health effects receive several points, whereas the positive effects are briefly listed and the link between reliance on cars and changes to everyday life could be explained more fully. For example, develop how car dependence affects commuting or access to services, and support claims such as increased respiratory illness with a specific explanation or example. This would make the ideas more consistently extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, several body paragraphs and a conclusion. Its progression from pollution to health and transport alternatives, followed by the benefits of cars, is generally easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships between points. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the paragraph beginning “Moreover” combines health effects with public transport and traffic flow, which would be clearer if these related but distinct points were organised more deliberately. The contrast between the opening reference to public transport and the later discussion could also be signposted more smoothly. More precise referencing and transitions between each main effect would strengthen the overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “air pollution,” “harmful chemicals,” “smog,” “respiratory diseases,” “traffic flow,” and “parking charges.” These terms make the subject clear, and attempts at more specific language show some flexibility. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “quality index of air,” “visibilty index,” “traffic load,” and “adverse affects.” There are also spelling errors, including “pessengers,” “Goverment,” and “visibilty,” which reduce precision. Aim for natural, accurate combinations such as “air quality,” “reduced visibility,” and “increase in traffic.” Proofreading spelling and choosing established collocations would make your vocabulary more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “Noise pollution … that leads to stress” and the contrast introduced by “While.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation prevent consistently accurate control. For example, “Many believe that its more convenient” needs a possessive form and a complete contrast with the following sentence; “Their engine emit” has a subject–verb agreement error; and “Family can enjoy private trips” needs an article or plural subject. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct agreement, and complete clause structure, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
