Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people prefer to travel on private vehicles. Many people believe that it is easily accessible and time saving approach while public transportataion has no modern facilities and time cosuming. However, I beleive that this is negative development because it is cost effective and has adverse effects on environment.

To begin with, due to increase in population, the number of private car has also increased. As a result, these vehicles emit smokes and hazardous chemicals in air that leads to air pollution. Air pollution is an evironmental threat and damages protective layer around the earth called ozone layer. Additionally, due to smog and air pollution people are suffering from respiratory diseases such as asthma and bronchitis. Using private vehicles for transportation not only affects air but also a risk to public health.

In addition to this, traffic load on roads has increased due to increase number of private vehicles, therefore chances of accidents have been increased too. Roads are congested because they were designed earlier for public transportation. Feul prices are increasing day by day. This is largely because of higher demands.

On the other hand, some people argue that it is positive development. Due to availability of private vehicle, they can enjoy privacy and freedom while traveling. Moreover, they can travel independently anywhere. For instance, in emergency situation they can travel to the hospital immediately. Secondly, public buses and trains offer less privacy and comfort. However, their logic is straight forward.

In conclusion, I believe that relying wholely on private cars for transportation is a negative development. To protect our planet and human health, we should encourage the use of public transport.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your response addresses both questions: it describes effects on pollution, health, congestion and accidents, and gives a clear overall view that reliance on private cars is negative. The opposing benefits of privacy, freedom and emergency access are also acknowledged, so the position is relevant and understandable. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that roads were designed for public transportation does not clearly explain how this causes congestion, and the fuel-price point is not connected convincingly to car reliance. Develop fewer ideas with a specific explanation or example, and make the comparison between benefits and harms more explicit to strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, paragraphs presenting negative effects and counterarguments, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “In addition to this,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the main stages. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence about rising fuel prices follows the discussion of accidents without showing how the ideas relate, while “However, their logic is straight forward” does not clearly connect to the preceding benefits and weakens the paragraph’s progression. Use transitions that express the precise relationship between ideas, and organise each body paragraph around one main point with supporting explanation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “hazardous chemicals,” “air pollution,” “respiratory diseases,” “privacy,” and “congested.” These choices make the subject clear and show attempts to use more specific language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “transportataion,” “evironmental,” “Feul,” and “wholely.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “emit smokes” and “time saving approach”; these reduce precision even though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim to learn accurate collocations as complete phrases and check spelling carefully. More precise wording for the effects of car use would also help you avoid broad or awkward expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “that,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, plurals, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the number of private car has also increased” needs a plural noun after “number of,” and “chemicals in air that leads” has an agreement problem. The opening sentence also lacks a clear grammatical structure around “it is easily accessible and time saving approach.” Work on checking subject–verb agreement and article use, and revise complex sentences to ensure each clause has a clear subject and verb. Greater accuracy would make your ideas easier to follow.
