Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern era of automobiles, people prefer private modes of transportation such as motorcycles and Cars instead of public transportation. Time savings and convenience are huge advantages; however, some problems cannot be neglected due to this trend.

First of all, private vehicles such as cars can save the time of an individual. To elaborate more, if a person uses a car instead of buses, he can get to work on time. He does not need to leave the home early to reach bus station on schdueled time. Furthermore, travel becomes easy and smooth when you use private transportation. For example, a person can take break whenever and wherever he wants. Looking at the negative impact, congestion can be a major disadvantage on the roads, due to which carbon monoxide will increase in the atmosphere that can cause severe health impact on elderly people at most.

I belive that using private cars can be more advantageous than its disadvantages. For instance, this approach not only saves time but also money. To elaborate more, nowadays, ticket prices of buses and trains are higher than the fuel costs of a car in cities such as Toronto and Calgary due to industrial areas. Moreover, In some circumstances like in winter, individuals are unable to travel because of harsh snowfall so they often get delay to reach at workplaces. On the other hand, having cars can make easy travel without a doubt.

To recapitulate, although environment and roads are being affected due to number of cars, people conviences and safety have been increasing far better than before thanks to modern automobile companies that make cars.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you describe effects such as saving time, making travel more convenient, congestion, and pollution, then state that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. The examples about commuting and winter travel in Toronto and Calgary help make the discussion relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that cars save money compared with public transport is not supported with a clear comparison, and the link between congestion, carbon monoxide, and health effects could be developed more precisely. The conclusion repeats your position but adds a broad claim about safety and convenience without showing how these effects have increased. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation or specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages and disadvantages, a paragraph supporting your position, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “First of all,” “Furthermore,” and “To recapitulate” make the progression easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, particularly with repeated phrases such as “To elaborate more” and “On the other hand,” which does not clearly signal a contrast in that sentence. The first body paragraph also shifts from benefits to a negative effect without a clear transition, while the second returns to advantages. Grouping the positive effects together and then discussing the negative effects would make the argument’s progression more consistent. Clarify references such as “this approach” so readers can immediately identify the idea being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “private modes of transportation,” “congestion,” “carbon monoxide,” and “harsh snowfall.” These choices allow you to discuss both convenience and environmental consequences. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “To recapitulate,” although some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “people conviences,” “get delay,” and “health impact on elderly people at most.” Spelling errors such as “belive,” “schdueled,” and “conviences,” along with inconsistent capitalization of “Cars” and “In,” reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your meaning more precise without requiring more complicated words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the concession in “although environment and roads are being affected” and the conditional structure “if a person uses a car.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “he does not need to leave the home early to reach bus station” is missing articles, and “people conviences and safety have been increasing” has an agreement and sentence-structure problem. In “individuals are unable to travel because of harsh snowfall so they often get delay,” the clauses need clearer punctuation and the verb pattern is incorrect. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and verb forms, and use punctuation to separate linked clauses. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
