Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is no doubt that in this contemporary era, everyone is busy at their work so to complete their work on time people start using mobile phones during driving which is very dangerous, and distracted drivers while driving. However, to solve this problem it is critical that government should take necessary steps, and using mobile phones should be illegal during driving. I am totally agree with this statement, and I will discuss it briefly in the upcoming paragraphs with relevant examples.

To commence with, there are several drawbacks behind this issue. The first and foremost disadvantage is using cell phones during driving is not only dangerous for drivers, but they also put passengers life in danger by preforming this unnecessary activity. Apart from that, cell phone distract individuals so, they lose their control, and accidents occur. For example, a survey conducted by Traffic Police in 2025 in Amritsar approximately 50 per cent accidents happened everyday due to used of mobile phones while driving. Hence, using phones during driving should be banned to avoid accidents.

Furthermore, it is very vital for authorities to take necessary steps so that this problem should be solved. Moreover, governments need to be charge high penalties, if they find anyone using phone during driving. Although, authorities need to set up seminars in which they teach local public about the demerits of this issue so that they aware about this and never do that type of mistake that put their life in danger. Thus, these steps help a lot in the decline of accident rates.

In conclusion, using mobile phone during driving is very dangerous because this activity put people life in danger So to solve this problem it is essential for everyone follow all the rules and regulations that government made because these rules help us to spend a happy life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding safety and the role of government are relevant and supported by examples, such as the reference to traffic statistics and the suggestion of seminars. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion, which restates points already made without adding depth. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on extending their arguments with more nuanced analysis rather than simply restating the dangers of mobile phone use. The position is consistent, but the supporting evidence could be more sophisticated to fully meet the Band 7 criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Apart from that, cell phone distract individuals so, they lose their control'. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed due to grammatical errors. While the overall progression is clear, the management of cohesion could be more flexible and natural to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'demerits', 'penalties', and 'regulations'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'preforming this unnecessary activity' (performing), 'used of mobile phones' (use of), and 'be charge high penalties' (be charged). These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited range and occasional inaccuracy. To improve, the student should focus on learning correct collocations and refining their use of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('cell phone distract individuals'), article usage, and sentence construction ('I am totally agree'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and misuse of commas. While the student attempts complex structures, these are often where the errors occur. The frequency of these errors suggests that the student needs to focus on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure to ensure their writing is more polished and error-free.
