Student answer (Band 7.0)
Using a mobile while driving a vehicle is unsafe as it can divert the driver's attention and cause accidents. Thus usage of a mobile by drivers should be against the law.
In my opinion, the use of a mobile on the road should be considered a punishable crime. It must be treated with strict action and consequences because it is a life-threatening action that can lead to serious injuries to the driver or the other people involved in the accident due to the negligence of the driver while on call. e.g., paralysis, Internal brain injuries, losing a body part or even death.
On the other hand, some people believe that this is not a serious concern, as it's just talking on the phone, the way we do while doing our chores, work or walking. It's not distracting if you are a good driver, and also with the introduction of Bluetooth in all cars, talking on the phone while driving has been easier and more convenient.
However, I believe that even with the new features in the car, like Bluetooth, the distraction is there, as the human brain has been designed to focus on one primary action while occasionally supporting multitasking subconsciously; but even while multitasking, its main focus is on one thing or action only.
In conclusion, even if new advancements in technology and automobiles support and give the convenience of using a mobile while driving, it's harmful and hazardous and impacts the lives of families along with the people involved in the accidents; it should be treated as a life-threatening act and considered illegal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of making cell phone use while driving illegal. The ideas are relevant, particularly the discussion on the limitations of hands-free technology. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the argument regarding the dangers of distraction is clear, the counter-argument section is slightly underdeveloped, and the examples provided (e.g., 'paralysis, Internal brain injuries') are listed rather than integrated into a cohesive argument. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the reasoning behind your points with more detailed explanations or real-world scenarios, ensuring that the connection between the distraction and the legal consequences is fully explored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In conclusion', and 'On the other hand' to transition between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs could be smoother; some sentences feel slightly disjointed. For example, the transition between the mention of Bluetooth and the argument about human brain design could be better linked. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing is consistent will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'life-threatening', 'negligence', 'subconsciously', and 'hazardous'. These words are used appropriately and convey your meaning clearly. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'the way we do while doing our chores', which is slightly informal. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas effectively, incorporating a wider range of less common lexical items would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'if you are a good driver' and the use of relative clauses. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to understand. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'the usage of a mobile' (should be 'the use of a mobile') and 'the other people' (should be 'other people'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are quite long and could benefit from more careful clause management. Overall, your grammar is accurate enough that errors do not impede communication.
