Student answer (Band 6.0)

I partly a agree that making use of cell phone while driving poses a great risk , because is it may cause accident or any other hazardous issue. but using it with caution can be safe too. i will look into the merits and demerit to get it to be balanced .

To begin with, making use of handset by driers on motion is safe use carefully while driving . it keeps the person driving awake especially at night . it helps the the drivers to get important information For example, a commercial bus driver that is always on the road can use phone calls to to keep himself awake. That can prevent a dangerous issue not to occur . In addition, information could be received when the road the driver is plying is unsafe .

On the other hand, a ghastly accident that can claim the lives of the passengers and driver may occur, if it is a commercial vehicle. For instance, a driver can be carried away by a discussion on phone, especially, if it is a shocking news about the death of a loved one. this may pose a hazardous issue. Similarly, using cellphone on motion without caution may make the driver to go unnoticed with things that can cause accident , like bumps , portholes and other things that may be dangerous on the road.

From my own point of view, using cell phone is not a bad thing to do while driving for the fact that the driver is being careful about it in such a way that it does not cause harm.

In conclusion, the issue of answering call while driving is can be mandated to use it with utmost care to avoid distractions. Drivers should be advice the stop answering calls while on motion and ensure parking in a safe place to answer calls, before continuing driving .With these few points, it can help to balance it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument, though the position is somewhat inconsistent. You initially state you 'partly agree' that it should be illegal, but then argue that using a phone is 'not a bad thing'. The ideas are relevant, such as the potential for distraction versus the utility of staying awake, but the development is limited. The conclusion contradicts the body paragraphs by suggesting a mandate for 'utmost care' rather than a clear stance on whether it should be illegal. To improve, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and maintained consistently throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'With these few points, it can help to balance it' at the end. Some transitions are missing or awkward, making the flow between sentences feel disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the conclusion where the link between the arguments and the final recommendation is weak. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'nevertheless') would significantly enhance the logical flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'hazardous issue' and 'dangerous issue', which are repeated. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'on motion' instead of 'in motion' or 'while driving'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations related to road safety and technology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently struggle with articles ('the the drivers'), subject-verb agreement ('drivers should be advice'), and prepositional usage ('on motion'). Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing and unnecessary commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and that articles are used appropriately before nouns.
