Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is one paramount thing that ought to be given utmost attention and must be prohibited in the law of driving which is the use of phones by motorists during driving. I agree to the this view as I believe there are several reasons why such as approach would benefit the drivers and other road users.

I firmly believe that full concentration while driving would bring the rate of accident to a minimal level. The majority of the mishap that occur most times are caused by distractions from the smartphones. for instance, a driver may loose focus by accepting a call from an angry wife. As a result, hit an overtaking vehicle approaching thereby causing some road misfortune.

Another significant factor not giving total attention on the road can cause is that the driver may not see the traffic signs which would definetely obstruct the other road users or causes heavey traffic jam and this might cause delay in appointment or medical time for others .

In conclusion, when the use of mobile is being made illegal by the authorities, the rate of mishap would totally reduce.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning cell phone use while driving. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. While the main arguments regarding distraction and traffic safety are relevant, they are presented in a very brief manner without sufficient elaboration or detailed examples. To reach a higher band, you must expand your points by explaining the 'why' and 'how' more thoroughly and providing more comprehensive supporting evidence. The current length prevents a full development of the topic, resulting in a lower score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas, and the use of cohesive devices such as 'for instance,' 'as a result,' and 'in conclusion' helps to link sentences together. However, the transitions are sometimes a bit mechanical, and the overall structure feels underdeveloped due to the brevity of the response. To improve, ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by well-supported arguments that flow naturally into one another, rather than just listing points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more formal language such as 'paramount,' 'utmost attention,' and 'prohibited.' However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'mishap that occur most times' instead of 'accidents' or 'incidents,' and 'medical time' which is unclear. Spelling errors like 'definetely' and 'heavey' also detract from the overall quality. To improve, focus on using precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary is used in the correct context to convey your meaning clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'I agree to the this view,' 'loose focus' (should be 'lose'), and 'not giving total attention on the road can cause is that...' which is syntactically confusing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the capitalization of 'for instance.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction.
