Student answer (Band 6.5)
I totally agree with the proposition of making illegal the use of cell phone while driving.
Every year, around the world, people end up in uncountable road accidents. As one of my motorsports senior partners has told me once while I was learning to drive from him, that accidents did not have any definition. Adding that, they might happen at anytime and at anyplace.
Knowing that there are several aspects which build up to an accident. One of which is a distracted driving. Just a single glance on a phone screen can lead to a fatal accident. Hence, I strongly support the enforcement that helps curbing such incidents on the road.
I live in India where traffic is a big mess in most of the urban areas. Driving on roads feels like having an adventure of the lifetime. The law and enforcement to curb traffic law violators are there yet there is a huge gap to be filled.
For instance, distracted driving by checking any text messages or missed notifications have different end results while driving on different speeds. On slower speeds it is much safer as the distance covered by the vehicle is much less than while driving on a faster speed. But that should not make the use of cell phones while driving slow rational.
I happened to have met with a near fatal accident while traveling at a reasonable speed and a largely empty road, yet the driver of my car was distracted just for an instant and a sheep suddenly jumped right in front of us from the surrounding bushes. Having less time respond, we ended up ramming the sheep head on and the vehicle lost control. This can happen to any road user. The only thing to avoid or be prepared for it is general awareness and drivers' obedience towards stricter rules. Heavy fines and penalties can also discourage people from using cell phones while driving.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, particularly the personal anecdote regarding the accident, which serves as a strong supporting example. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the personal experience is detailed, the argument regarding the 'gap' in traffic enforcement in India is a bit tangential to the core issue of whether cell phone use should be illegal. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly contributes to justifying the ban on cell phones rather than focusing on general traffic conditions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Hence' and 'For instance,' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt, such as the start of the second paragraph. Additionally, the referencing in the second paragraph ('Adding that, they might happen...') is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'curbing,' 'fatal accident,' and 'penalties' appropriately. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'proposition of making illegal the use of cell phone' and 'adventure of the lifetime.' While these do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise collocation. To improve, focus on learning common word pairings and avoiding overly literal translations from your native language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'a distracted driving' (should be 'distracted driving'), 'at anytime and at anyplace' (should be 'at any time and in any place'), and 'Having less time respond' (missing 'to'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
