Student answer (Band 6.5)

Breaking law is the major concern nowadays in any country. Most of the individuals are using their phones while driving, which is very harmful for them, and they become careless and distracted by the phone. I strongly agree with this statement because most of the road accidents are caused by these patterns of driving, and there are majorly no strict rules by our government, so they do not understand the consequences of them. In this essay I will discuss all the reasons and give examples for it.

Firstly, in many countries most of the accidents are caused by carelessness, and people have no fear of government and legal authorities. Secondly, political parties and big known businessmen help their children to cover their mistakes. For example, in recent news I saw one major news story: four to five people lost their lives because of one car driver who talked on his cellphone while driving, and he did not see the people on the road.

Moreover, our governments should create strict laws for our new generations because in this modern world no one individual lives without their phone, and make a legal law that no one is allowed to use their phone while driving, which is very dangerous for everyone, and one incident can make a remark on your life and the youth become murderers. Lastly, strict rules and regulations made by our authorities can make a good nation without crime.

In conclusion, driving is very harmful for individuals when they are on their devices and make huge mistakes, but with strong laws and regulations, a nation can be made without crime.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that accidents are caused by distracted driving, the argument regarding political parties and businessmen is not clearly linked to the core issue of cell phone use, making the supporting evidence feel slightly tangential. To reach a higher band, ensure that every example directly reinforces your main argument about why cell phone use should be illegal. The conclusion is present but could be more effectively used to summarize the main points rather than introducing new phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the flow within paragraphs could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the mention of political influence and the example of the car accident is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'legal authorities', 'consequences', and 'regulations'. However, there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary, and some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'make a remark on your life' or 'make a good nation'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication and nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Breaking law is the major concern' (missing article), 'make a legal law' (redundant), and 'the youth become murderers' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are overly long and could be broken up for better clarity. To achieve a higher score, focus on reducing these recurring errors and increasing the variety of complex sentence structures used with accuracy.
