Student answer (Band 6.0)

Driving while using a cell phone is hazardous as it distracted the driver from its concentration on road. Some people believe that this should be banned whereas other opine that perspective. This essay will discuss both the perspective along with my opinion at the end.

On one hand, individual favour that using phone while on the road is a serious concern as the mind will completely focus on the discussion./ argument that a driver had when on call or towards reels if browsing the applications. This in turn resulted in serious accidents that will impact the life of not only a driver but also public which also suffers because of this silly behaviour by the driver. Hence, usage of the phone during driving should be considered as illegal. For instance A truck driver was using phone while taking u turn at a prohibited place. Unfortunately, a car full of family came in front and a dangerous collision happened which took the life of all the five family members.

On the other hand, in this modern generation phones became a necessity and no one can think of surviving without its accessibility. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments for both sides and supported them with examples, such as the truck driver incident and the Dubai traffic regulations. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The introduction states you will discuss both perspectives, but the prompt asks for your opinion on the extent to which you agree or disagree. While you do provide your stance, the essay structure feels slightly formulaic. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more deeply explored rather than just stated, and ensure the conclusion clearly synthesises your position rather than introducing new conditions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To recapitulate' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'other opine that perspective'. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, for example, the use of 'its' in the first paragraph lacks a clear antecedent. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hazardous', 'prohibited', and 'penalised'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'distracted the driver from its concentration' (should be 'their concentration') and 'individual favour' (should be 'individuals favour'). Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, such as 'seen anything on phone'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are accurate. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'individual favour that using phone... is a serious concern' and 'if anyone caught in this situation'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text (e.g., 'a car full of family', 'the Dubai government'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Increasing your control over basic grammar and punctuation would significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
