Student answer (Band 5.5)

Its becoming distraction when drivers use mobile phones during driving a car so, smartphones should be illegal for drivers. I partly agree with this statement as this would be decrease accidents and

The first and prominent benefit is that it would save so many accidents on road because when drivers will focus on their driving they can follow all the traffic rule and regulations. For instance, here i would share my friend incident when i met a accident due to using a mobile phone during driving a car on highway. There was three friends in their car. He was using a phone and due to reason he missed the stop sign and he did not stop. Their car was crashed with someone car. Moreover, police would save a lot of time as whenever any driver met an accident than there have to go first at that place. If smartphones would be restricted during driving than police can save a time. As a result, ultimately government would save their funds.

However, there are some situations when we need to use phones while driving since sometimes we do not have car which have navigation. Therefore, at that moment we have to see maps on phones.

To conclude, using mobile during driving would be made distraction consequently that drivers become illegal. I partly agree with this statement because it would declined many an accidents and also it would save a lot of time of police whereas, some situations we need to use smartphones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a 'partly agree' position. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you provide a personal anecdote to support the argument for banning phones, the counter-argument regarding navigation is underdeveloped and lacks sufficient depth. The conclusion is somewhat confusing, as the phrasing 'that drivers become illegal' does not accurately reflect the prompt's focus on banning phone use. To improve, ensure that each paragraph clearly links back to the central question and that your position is maintained consistently throughout the essay without contradictory or unclear statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the transition 'Moreover, police would save a lot of time' is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is often repetitive or misused, such as 'due to reason' and 'at that moment'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise, which occasionally impedes communication. You rely on basic terms and struggle with collocations, such as 'save so many accidents' (instead of 'prevent') and 'met a accident' (instead of 'had an accident'). There are also issues with word forms, such as using 'distraction' as a noun where an adjective is needed ('Its becoming distraction'). To improve, you should practice using more precise academic vocabulary and focus on learning common collocations related to traffic and safety to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('There was three friends'), article usage ('at that place'), and sentence structure ('If smartphones would be restricted... than police can save a time'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or slightly complex sentences that often contain errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency.
