Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this age of modernization, The usage of mobile phones during driving is a serious problem due to this driver distracts and accidents can happen. I fully agree with this notion and I will discuss reasons in upcoming paragraphs.

Supporting my agreement I firmly believe that, usage of electronics devices such as cell phones while driving is not good enough for each and every person as 80% of accidents are happening due to distraction. To cite an example last year in Canada truck driver was using phone in driving time and truck crashes with another vehicle in which there was 2 adults and one kid and died at the moment what was there mistake.

Furthermore, in order to reduce these type of incidents governments should impose strict rules such as high penalities or fines. Whereas, in this day and age hands free options are available in mobile devices that can be used by drivers. Moreover, everyone should understand the right time to use electronic devices whether it’s is for important use or fun.

In conclusion, i agree that big accidents are happening because of distraction on cell phones but this can be reduced with regulating proper rules and regulations through government of nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 203 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the supporting arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the example provided regarding the accident in Canada is vague and lacks sufficient detail to fully support your argument. The conclusion is also quite brief. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and examples to ensure the task is fully addressed. The current length prevents a more thorough exploration of the topic, which is necessary for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by the brevity of the points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion', but the transitions between ideas can feel mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraphs are quite short, which affects the overall flow. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by well-developed supporting details to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'serious problem', 'not good enough', and 'big accidents' lack the precision and sophistication expected at higher levels. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'electronics devices' instead of 'electronic devices' and 'in driving time' instead of 'while driving'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary and idiomatic expressions related to road safety and legislation, while ensuring that word choices are accurate and natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'due to this driver distracts' (should be 'due to this, drivers become distracted'), 'truck crashes with another vehicle' (tense inconsistency), and 'there was 2 adults' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, consistent verb tenses, and sentence variety. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect pluralization will also help improve your accuracy significantly.
