Student answer (Band 5.0)
Using a mobile phone while driving is always a risky part and it creates lot of problems for drivers in driving.I totally agree with this and it should be declared by government that it is illegal.
Well driving is always an crucial skill in terms of daily life and you have to be extra careful while driving . I think that mobile should be considered illegal while driving because sometimes it creates lot of burden on drivers that cause a big accident which sometimes cause a life loss for some person.
Apart from this , using phone in driving also increase the traffic on the roads and create lot of traffic on the road which also puts pressure on the other people which cause the other people to take wrong routes to reach their place quickly.
In my viewpoint I strongly believe that mobile should be prohibited while driving because that leads to big problems and sometimes a loss of someone life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 162 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position in favor of banning mobile phones while driving, the arguments provided are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, you mention 'big problems' and 'life loss' multiple times without providing specific examples or a more nuanced discussion on the impact of distracted driving. To improve, you must expand your points with concrete evidence, personal experience, or logical consequences to meet the length requirement and fully develop your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is limited. You use some cohesive devices like 'Apart from this' and 'In my viewpoint', but the transitions between sentences are often mechanical. The ideas within paragraphs are somewhat repetitive, particularly the focus on 'big problems' and 'life loss'. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same concept.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases such as 'big problems', 'lot of problems', and 'big accident' are used frequently, which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'an crucial skill' (should be 'a crucial skill') and 'life loss' (should be 'loss of life'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to road safety, such as 'cognitive impairment', 'mitigate risks', or 'legislative measures', and focus on correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors. For example, 'it should be declared by government that it is illegal' is passive but slightly awkward, and 'create lot of traffic' lacks the necessary article 'a'. There are also punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Apart from this ,'). To improve, you should practice using a variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage.
