Student answer (Band 6.0)

Usage of cell phones have become an important part of our daily lives. It's become a necessity rather than just means of communication. Although it's misuse has brought many problems, such as accidents caused by using mobiles while driving. While some argue that drivers should be completely banned from using this gadget while driving, I partially agree with this statement.

On one hand, smartphones have become a prominent part of our lives, it is rarely a means of communication anymore. It has become a tool for conducting various businesses. For instance for some content creators it is a sole means of earning income, for others it is online selling of goods while for others it is means of exploring the world and informing the news on social media.

On the other hand, people are using the mobile phones carelessly. Some drivers are using to answer calls or watch contents while driving which is leading to increase numbers of road accidents because smartphones is causing distraction to them, this leads to death of many innocent lives. I feel that if there any urgent call that requires the drivers attention he of she can park the vehicle on the side of the road and answer it.

However, I believe that certain strict actions should be taken for careless driver rather than making it completely banned norm for all. For instance we can consficate the driver's licence or a huge fine to be paid.

In conclusion, mobile phones are means of our daliy lives and should be carefully used even while driving with precaution rathen than just making it competely illegal and strict rules should be implemented for those who do not follow while driving.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position of partial agreement. You have identified the dangers of distracted driving while proposing alternative solutions, such as fines or license confiscation, rather than a total ban. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding content creators and online sellers is not clearly linked to the context of driving, making the connection to the prompt feel slightly tangential. To reach a higher band, ensure that every supporting point directly reinforces your stance on the specific issue of cell phone use while driving, rather than focusing on the general utility of smartphones.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'However,' to signal shifts in your argument. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions are abrupt. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better contrast the utility of phones with the danger they pose. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this' to refer back to complex ideas. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'necessity,' 'prominent,' 'confiscate,' and 'precaution.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'informing the news' instead of 'reporting the news' or 'making it completely banned norm.' There are also minor spelling errors like 'consficate,' 'daliy,' and 'rathen.' While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and proofreading for common spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Usage of cell phones have,' 'smartphones is causing'), missing articles ('for others it is means of'), and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas. While you attempt complex sentences, the control over them is inconsistent. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound, particularly when using complex clauses.
