Student answer (Band 6.0)
No doubt in today's increasingly connected world, mobile phones plays an inevitable role for not only social but also personal interactions. However, usage of phones during driving on road results driver inattentive which eventually cost lives in some cases. nevertheless, I strongly agree to this statement that it ought to considered as unlawful action to maintain safety on road.
the most prominent reason for banning cell phones is that it creates considerable distraction. when drivers text, make call, browse their phones, their concentration get diverted even for few seconds. ultimately, driver lost their focus and ignore if there is pedestrian. for instance, if driver is using cell phone to text or browse, they have to look after phone insted of road. it does only distract them to heed sign boards but also the pedestrian such as children or old that need to be considered more attentively. in due course, it consequence in collision that could be life- threatening.
another strong reason is that extreme usage of cell phone leads to distract driver from speed changing zone as well as traffic lights. these signs and traffic lights are non- negligible to maintain best driving practices. for example, if driver does not notice lights and signs, it does not only harm to their live but also dangerous for other drivers who are following all traffic rules.
in conclusion, government should impose strict law to prevent drivers fron using cell phones not only for their well- being but also maintain protective safety rule

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of banning cell phone use while driving. The ideas are relevant, focusing on distraction and the failure to observe traffic signals. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the arguments could be strengthened with more specific, real-world examples rather than general hypothetical scenarios. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and lacks a final summary statement that reinforces the main argument. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, keeping it at a mid-range band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'the most prominent reason' and 'another strong reason,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear or awkward, such as 'it consequence in collision.' The flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors, which makes the progression feel slightly disjointed at times. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would help elevate the coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'collision,' 'inattentive,' and 'unlawful.' However, there are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'it consequence in collision' (should be 'results in') and 'non-negligible' (which is used slightly awkwardly in context). The range is somewhat limited, and the repetition of basic terms like 'driver' and 'cell phone' suggests a need for a wider variety of synonyms and more precise academic phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('phones plays,' 'concentration get diverted,' 'driver lost their focus'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms ('insted of road,' 'it consequence in'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and distract the reader. To improve, the writer should focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that prepositions and articles are used correctly.
