Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the dangers of mobile phone use while driving and expressing a position. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you mention the necessity of phones for work, the connection to the argument for a total ban is weak. The essay lacks a clear, sustained position, and the final paragraph is incomplete, which prevents a fully developed conclusion. To improve, ensure each paragraph directly supports your main argument and provides specific, well-explained examples rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow between and within them is often disjointed. Transitions like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the ideas following them do not always align with these markers. For example, the second paragraph discusses the necessity of phones, which contradicts the prompt's premise, creating confusion. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the final paragraph is fragmented, which disrupts the overall progression of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'excess use of mobile phone' and 'large number of' are used frequently. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'risking thing ever' and 'accident ratio' (instead of 'accident rate'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the presence of non-standard phrasing limit the score. You should aim to use more precise terminology related to traffic safety and technology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('teenagers dose', 'citizen record also effected'), incorrect verb forms ('excess using'), and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final paragraph. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tense usage is consistent throughout the piece.
