Student answer (Band 6.0)

Using mobiles phone whilst driving constitutes not only reckless behavior, but also considered danger to public and drivers alike. I fully agree with the statement and use of cell phones by drivers is illegal. We will deep dive into this topic in below paragraphs.

Driving requires full concentration and a small distraction can cause a fatal accident, which can endanger life every-one on road. Furthermore, looking at a screen takes a driver's eyes off the road, meaning they are essentially driving blind for critical seconds. Additionally, holding a phone with one hand leaves only one hand on steering wheel, reducing the drivers control on vehicle. Moreover, drivers focus moves away from driving and splits between calls and text, which reduces reaction time and increases crash risk. For Instance, as per traffic data of many countries majority of accidents are caused due to drivers negligence or distraction due to use of phones.

There are real world dangerous impact of using mobile phones during your drive. For example, studies show that texting or talking on a mobile device significantly raises the chance of a collision. Even hands-free devices maintain a high cognitive workload that impairs safe driving. Therefore, now many regions enforce strict laws and heavy fines against handheld mobile use behind the wheel to protect pedestrians and other motorists

Using these gadgets while driving is hazardous not only for drivers, passengers, but also for each vehicle, which are on road. Authorities has to enact strict laws for those using mobile phones while driving, there must be provision for fines and back points. Additionally, for repetitive offenders there must be harsher punishments like suspension or license or vehicle impound.

In conclusion, considering all above arguments use of mobile phones has to be barred. With proper rules, regulations and punitive measures in place, we can create safe environment on road.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of banning mobile phone use while driving. The ideas are relevant and supported by logical arguments, such as the reduction in reaction time and the cognitive workload associated with hands-free devices. The development is consistent throughout the essay. However, the response could be improved by providing more specific, real-world examples rather than general references to 'traffic data' or 'studies'. While the position is clear, the depth of analysis is sufficient for a Band 7, as it covers the main points well without significant omissions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as the physical dangers of distraction and the need for legal enforcement. Cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more precise terminology such as 'reckless behavior', 'cognitive workload', and 'punitive measures'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'back points' (likely meaning 'demerit points') and 'each vehicle, which are on road'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the consistent flexibility and precision required for a higher band. The student demonstrates a good grasp of topic-specific vocabulary related to driving and safety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'use of cell phones by drivers is illegal' (should be 'should be made illegal'), 'every-one on road' (missing article), and 'Authorities has to enact' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are occasional slips. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and refining complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
