Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, there have been lot's of accidents cause by using smartphones while driving has become a widely debated issue. While some people believe that it's safe to use phones while driving. I strongly agree with the view that it's unsafe and would take a life of a person. This essay will discuss the main points supporting my position.

The primary reason why i support this view is that using cellphone would be hazardous and distract you and it may also lead to serious injuries. This is because we are completely into it and if there's any emergency or other driver overtaking us it would be problematic. For Example, The news article data shows there were approximately 10,000 people who got injured or dead due to accidents in year 2019. Therefore, it is evident that use of cellphone while driving should be illegal and should pay fine.

Another significant reason is that due to such incidents happening again and again and many innocent people are sacrificing their lives. In other words, if we made it compulsory to pay the fine whoever is committing it there would be fear among people before doing such things. For Instance, if individual follow all the rules and regulations properly and avoid using phones while driving there would be decline in the numbers of accidents occurring.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that people should avoid all the distraction while driving and safely follow all rules and regulations. Although there may be some disadvantages associated with this issue, the advantages are more significant. Therefore, people and government should take appropriate measures to follow all driving rules and drive safely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding safety and the deterrent effect of fines are relevant. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of why cell phone use is 'problematic' is vague, and the second body paragraph relies on repetitive logic rather than exploring broader consequences or alternative perspectives. While the position is consistent, the supporting evidence is general rather than deeply analytical. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments with more nuanced reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason,' 'Another significant reason,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'whoever is committing it,' where the antecedent is not explicitly defined. The flow between sentences is generally functional, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on common, sometimes informal phrasing (e.g., 'completely into it,' 'sacrificing their lives'). There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'take a life of a person' instead of 'take a person's life' and 'use of cellphone' instead of 'the use of cellphones.' To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to road safety and legislation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('accidents cause by,' 'individual follow'), missing articles ('in year 2019'), and punctuation errors (e.g., the sentence fragment 'While some people believe that it's safe to use phones while driving.'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb forms and sentence boundaries.
