Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is considered that usage of mobile phone during driving can be dangerous, as it distracts driver's mind. Thus, cell usage should be banned while driving. To Large extend I am disagee with this statement and reason behind this will be discussed in the following paragraphs.

To commence with first reason that it is convenient to look for maps in their smart phones because it is challenging to drive in new cities without knowing their roads roots. In other words, these days younger people mostly rely on google/apple maps in order to reach desination without taking any wrong turn. Even map can provide the advance notice of road such as traffic congestion, accidents or any other reason which can delay our jaurney. So, we can plan our trip on according to situation. Moreover, emergency could occur at any time. To explicate it, if any one from driver's family or friend become ill and have to take hospital right away, driver will need to pick a call in order to help them instantally. Hence, answer a call while driving can save anyone's life.

shifting toward the another notion, usage of phone can cause serious dangerous when driving. To elaborate it, when driver use smart phone to look for any content, when they drive, it can divert their mind from driving to phone's content because of this they can cause serious accident, which can lead them to serious injury or even take their lives. For instance, a survey conducted in California about the reason of road accident, it reveled that 35% accident happen due to the use of phone.

To coclude, although mobile phones can show the route to destination, usage of it can take driver life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt, but the position is somewhat contradictory. You state you disagree with the ban, yet your third paragraph acknowledges that phone use causes serious accidents and injuries. This inconsistency weakens your argument. While you provide reasons for your position, such as navigation and emergency calls, the development is somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, ensure your position remains consistent throughout the essay and provide more nuanced arguments that directly address the counter-argument rather than contradicting your own stance in the final paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'shifting toward the another notion'. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'shifting toward the another notion'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the logical progression between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt, as the third paragraph essentially argues against your own thesis. Improving the flow between ideas and ensuring that each paragraph supports your central argument will enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'look for maps' and 'take hospital'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'roads roots' instead of 'routes' and 'instantally' instead of 'instantly'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'navigation systems', 'mitigate risks', or 'unforeseen emergencies', and focus on accurate spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'To Large extend I am disagee' (article and spelling errors), 'if any one... become ill' (subject-verb agreement), and 'answer a call while driving can save' (should be 'answering'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and proofreading for basic spelling errors. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score.
