Student answer (Band 6.0)

The high extent usage of mobile phones leads to harmful effects on person, so it should be banned while driving. I totally agree to this notion.

The main reason is, lack of concentration will leads to major accidents which affect the health. To be more specific, people use electronic devices while performing driving, which hinder their attention and they did not see what is coming in front of them. To instance, teenager was driving the car while watching reels on Instagram , and did not stop at red signal which further cause him to collision with other fellow drivers.

In addition to this, strict action need to be taken for new generation who taking everything so granted To explain this, high pressure life made folks to complete everything in short period of time and they do not want to work under any principles. which further make them not taking things serious on any ground either its on financial side or health factor. That is why government should make strict rules so that every class should have to follow it and those who disobey it will get a major fine. For example, playing with any electronic device while driving will get fine of 1000 dollars and 3 demerit points. Furthermore, repetitive action will lead to suspension of license for 30 days.

In conclusion, I totally in support with banning mobile phones while using any vehicle because at the end it will give drastically effects on human health and financial health as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of accidents and the suggestion of fines. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second body paragraph shifts focus from the dangers of cell phone use to a general critique of the 'new generation' and their work ethic, which is only tangentially related to the prompt. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more focused on the specific dangers of distracted driving rather than broader societal issues. The conclusion effectively summarizes the stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to this' and 'To explain this', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between sentences is slightly disjointed, particularly in the second body paragraph where the link between 'high pressure life' and 'cell phone use while driving' is not fully articulated. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'high extent usage' and 'performing driving'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'drastically effects' instead of 'drastic effects'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'demerit points' and 'suspension of license', the overall range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in collocation that occasionally hinder the flow of the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('lack of concentration will leads to'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('who taking everything', 'did not see what is coming'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band, as the control over complex structures is not yet consistent.
