Student answer (Band 5.0)

To begin with, these days using cellphone while driving is very common among individuals. Despite the law and regulations people often break rules and risk their life as well as other safety too on roads.

In addition to this, mobiles phones are significantly play a huge role in our daily lives for example, communication, business, education etc. However, while driving it’s not safe choice to use on roads. When people using cellphone while driving they could easily get distracted on the roads and could results in major road accidents or lifelong injuries.

Moreover, I personally believe that cell phone usage while driving should be illegal and comes with heavy fines to avoid such incidents and protect lives on roads. Most of the times roads people watching videos and replying for messages or scrolling social media platforms which definitely not a safe choice.

Also, every day there is news about road accidents due to usage of phones while driving still there is lack of awareness among people. By informing stricter law and fines could improve the situation and enhance safety on roads for drivers. For example, few days ago person who driving behind me unable to stop on red light because he was using his phone and sudden break cause injury to him.

By making cellphone usage illegal while driving could saves people life and increase awareness on roads.I strongly recommend to make cellphone usage illegal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of making cell phone use while driving illegal. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the main arguments regarding distraction and safety are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive and lack the depth required for a higher band. The personal example provided is a good start but is underdeveloped. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations and perhaps a counter-argument to provide a more balanced and comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the transition 'Also, every day there is news...' which feels abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While there is a logical attempt to structure the argument, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the sentence structures limit the overall coherence. Improving the variety of transition signals would help the ideas connect more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'very common', 'huge role', and 'not a safe choice' are functional but lack the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'informing stricter law' (should be 'implementing' or 'enforcing') and 'sudden break' (should be 'braking'). To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to road safety and legislation, and work on using more precise word choices to convey your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'mobiles phones are significantly play a huge role' (incorrect verb form) and 'when people using cellphone' (missing auxiliary verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will be essential for improvement.
