Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this contemporary era, mobile phones have become indispensable part of life. However, there is an argument that using cell phones while driving should be made illegal. I strongly agreed with this statement because using phones can distract drivers while driving.

The major reason why smartphones should be made unlawful is due to the factor that it not only put driver’s life in danger but also the other road users like pedestrians, construction workers and other vehicle drivers. The other reason phones should be banned while operating a vehicle is because when a person is operating a smartphone while on the roads he looses cognitive and physical faculties and can met with a fatal accident. The road conditions could change within a few seconds and a person is unable to control his car on the sports if he is distracted even for short period of time. Furthermore, a driver could miss the traffic lights and will not be able to observe any jaywalking if he is distracted by his cell phone.

Government should implement some strict safety measures so that road accidents caused by mobile phone disturbance should be prevented. Authorization should banned the phones while driving and a fine should be issued to the driver who will be caught abiding this law. Authorities should conduct public awareness campaigns in order to make people aware of their own safety and also the other road users.

To wrap it all, smartphones should be prohibited while driving to prevent any disruption. Moreover, government should take measures to make citizens aware of safety on roads.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding safety and the potential for fatal accidents are relevant and well-supported. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the points about distraction and safety are restated in the conclusion without adding new depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your ideas further, perhaps by discussing the impact of technology on reaction times or the effectiveness of current legislation in other countries. Overall, the response is focused and directly answers the question.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In this contemporary era', which help the flow. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the phrase 'Authorization should banned the phones', which lacks a clear subject. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'cognitive and physical faculties', 'fatal accident', and 'public awareness campaigns'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'looses' (should be 'loses'), 'on the sports' (likely meant 'on the spot'), and 'Authorization should banned' (should be 'Authorities should ban'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms to convey your meaning with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'indispensable part of life' (missing an article), 'I strongly agreed' (should be 'agree'), 'it not only put' (should be 'puts'), and 'can met with' (should be 'can meet with'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and word forms. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
