Student answer (Band 6.0)
Using a cell phone while driving causes the driver to lose their focus and can put ones life in danger. I strongly agree believe that cell phone use while driving must be illegal. It does not just put the driver's life in danger, but also puts everyone else in danger.
From my personal experience, I have to drive every day from my house to work and then back again. I cannot count on my fingers the amount of drivers i see on a daily bases using their cell phone while driving, putting them selves and others in a dangerous situation. I strongly believe that there is nothing more important than one's health and safety. No matter how important the work is one must move to a safer stop before they attend their cell phone's.
For instance, My father in law had got into an accident in the year 2017. He was riding a bike home and a bsmall jeep had just hit him from the back. He went rolling down the fields next to the road and his head hit a rock. After investigation, we found out that it was a 16-year-old boy who was illegally driving a jeep and was on a phone call with his friends. He was later not guilty because he was under the legal age of 18-years. Where as on the other hand my father in law died when my fiance was just 14 years of age.
Having a personal story with this topic I strongly believe that it should be illegal for drivers to use cell phone while driving, Because it just not puts the driver in danger but also everyo ne around.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-defined position that cell phone use while driving should be made illegal. The main ideas are supported by reasons, such as the danger it poses to drivers and pedestrians, and a personal anecdote involving the writer's father-in-law. However, the development of ideas leans heavily on anecdotal evidence rather than broader societal arguments, which places it securely in the Band 6 to 7 range. The position is maintained throughout the response, and the conclusions drawn flow logically from the arguments presented, fulfilling the core requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a clear overall progression with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark. The writer uses some cohesive devices, such as 'From my personal experience' and 'For instance,' to connect ideas. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular, with very short paragraphs that disrupt the flow of the essay. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'Because it just not puts the driver in danger' links awkwardly to the preceding sentence. While the progression is generally coherent, the mechanical use of cohesion and weak paragraphing prevent it from achieving a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts. There are attempts at less common phrasing, such as 'dangerous situation' and 'illegally driving,' but vocabulary is frequently repetitive, relying heavily on words like 'danger,' 'driver,' and 'driving.' Furthermore, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'attend their cell phone's' instead of 'answer their phones' or 'use their phones,' and spelling slips like 'bsmall' and 'everyo ne.' Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is minimally adequate for conveying the intended message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses ('who was illegally driving') and conditional or temporal clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I strongly agree believe,' the absence of capitalisation in 'My father in law had got,' and missing apostrophes in expressions like 'cell phone's'. Additionally, there are awkward phrasings and tense inconsistencies, such as 'He was later not guilty.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency means that error-free sentences are not in the majority.
