Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether cell phone use while driving should be made illegal due to distractions. While the candidate takes a clear position against mobile phone use, stating that 'the cell phone use by drivers should be very illegal,' the ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive. The argument mostly revolves around the phrase 'dangerous for life and other people,' without presenting varied or extended supporting arguments. The inclusion of informal conversational elements like 'Hello Friends, I am Tanavee Patel' shows a misunderstanding of formal essay conventions. Furthermore, the reasoning is somewhat obscured by severe repetition and a lack of structured arguments. Because the main position is discernible and attempts to address all parts of the prompt are present, it fits the Band 4 descriptor where the response is marginal and repetitive.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organization of the text lacks logical progression and coherent structure. The response is broken into several paragraphs, but each block of text simply repeats variations of the same point without advancing the argument. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with repetitive conjunctions and pronouns (e.g., 'They are not used for the cell phones for risk our life') that make tracking references extremely difficult. Paragraphing is attempted, but because the internal flow of ideas is disjointed and confusing, information and ideas cannot be said to be arranged coherently. Therefore, this performance aligns closely with Band 4 criteria, where progression is lacking and cohesive relationships are faulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is very basic, limited, and repetitive. The candidate frequently misuses common words and word forms, such as 'driving dangerous' instead of 'dangerous driving', 'infactive', and 'acidents'. Words like 'dangerous', 'life', and 'cell phones' are heavily overused across every sentence. There is no evidence of less common lexical items or appropriate collocations. The lexical inadequacies frequently strain the reader's understanding and obscure the intended meaning of sentences, which directly reflects the descriptors for Band 4, where vocabulary is basic and errors consistently strain the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical structure of the writing is severely limited and inaccurate. The response contains almost no error-free sentences. There is a persistent failure to construct basic clauses correctly, evidenced by fragments and severe structural errors like 'The cell phone not safe for use in driving because the dangerous for life' and 'People are not rules drop and the lives for ypur drives in car.' Verb tenses, forms, and prepositions are misused constantly throughout the essay. Complex sentence forms are absent, and the frequency of grammatical errors distorts meaning significantly, matching the characteristics of Band 4 where errors are frequent and meaning is frequently obscured.
