Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is severely under-length, containing only 91 words compared to the required 250 words minimum. This severely impacts task achievement because the ideas cannot be fully developed or extended as required by the prompt. Furthermore, there is a contradiction in the student's stance; the introduction states 'I agree to the given notion', but the second paragraph states 'There are several reasons why I disagree with this statement'. Due to the incomplete nature of the response, contradictory position, and failure to meet the minimum length requirement, the task achievement is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text begins with an attempt at paragraphing, but the second paragraph cuts off mid-sentence, leaving the structure unfinished. Cohesive devices are used to a basic degree, such as 'First and foremost reason', but the abrupt ending hinders overall coherence and progression. The logical flow is disrupted by the contradictory statements regarding whether the student agrees or disagrees with the prompt. Paragraphing is initiated but not maintained effectively due to the premature ending of the writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, such as 'drivers drive their vehicles' and 'personal phones'. There are attempts at slightly less common phrases like 'prohibited by law' and 'important calls', but the limited length of the text restricts the range of vocabulary displayed. Spelling and word choice are generally acceptable within the narrow scope of the 91 words produced, but there is insufficient evidence of a wide or flexible lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts some complex sentence structures, such as 'It is believed that when drivers drive their vehicles they should not be allowed to use their personal phones because it distracts them...'. While the initial complex sentence is mostly grammatically acceptable, the fragmenting and incomplete sentences later in the text demonstrate limited control over extended structures. Punctuation and basic grammar are generally fine, but the writing cuts off before finishing the second paragraph, showing a lack of sustained grammatical control.
