Student answer (Band 6.0)

The use of mobile phones while driving can cause danger to lives of many becuase it is a reason for distraction. That is why, it should be illegal. I strongly agree with this statement and will explain my reasons in upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, there are ample of reasons why cell phone use by drivers should be made illegal. First and foremost is, driving require focus. To justify it, driving is a skill and art at the same time, which require focus. In today's world, phone is the biggest distraction, even the person using phone at home, forgets to do a lot of stuff so we can imagine, while driving how much distracting it might be. As it can cause major mishappenings. Moreover, risk of death. To elaborate it, as we know, driving is all about concentration, if the driver is on call, chatting, watching reels, naturally his attention will be divided which can cause serious damage to the body and even death. Because of one person fault, we do not know how many people have to face the causes. So it is better, government should take serious actions and make using phones while driving illegal.

Furthermore, loss of money because of accidents. To explain this, there are risk of accidents if driver use mobile phone, which can cause danger to health or vehlice, not only of their own, but also of other people, which will not be covered by insurance companies. For example, my cousin was driving a car, he had an emergency call, instead of stopping the car and listening to call, he continue driving and pick up the call. He get so involved in the call that he misses the signal and had a small accident. His own car has only one scratch but the bicycle with whom he had an accident is damaged so he have to commensate it. Lucky no human injury was involved other he had to suffer more.

To conclude, using cell phones can cause very serious problems and is very dangerous for everybody as discussed above, so it should be made illegal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The candidate clearly addresses all parts of the task, taking a strong, consistent stand in complete agreement with the prompt. The response introduces relevant main ideas, such as distraction, the risk of serious accidents, and financial consequences. These ideas are extended with an anecdotal example about a cousin's driving experience. However, some arguments tend to be repetitive and lack deeper elaboration, such as the superficial discussion of multitasking at home versus driving. Furthermore, spelling errors like 'becuase' and 'mishappenings' indicate minor slips in planning and execution. Overall, the response meets the requirements for a Band 6.5 to 7.0 by covering all parts of the task with a clear position, though development remains somewhat conversational and general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response features a clear overall progression with identifiable paragraphing, each addressing a distinct sub-theme (distraction, safety/death, and financial loss). Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To commence with', 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical and repetitive in structure, with formulaic lead-ins like 'To justify it', 'To elaborate it', and 'To explain this' used excessively. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed due to run-on sentences and abrupt transitions. Consequently, the organization shows clear strengths alongside some mechanical patterns, fitting a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'distraction', 'concentration', 'insurance companies', and 'compensation' (spelled 'commensate'). There are several noticeable lexical and spelling errors, such as 'becuase', 'mishappenings', 'vehlsice', and grammatical word-choice errors like 'driving require' and 'he continue driving'. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in word formation and collocation are present. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the message, but errors occasionally distract the reader. Therefore, the lexical performance aligns closely with a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'driving require', 'he misses', 'he have to commensate'), tense consistency (e.g., mixing past and present when narrating the cousin's story: 'he continue', 'he get', 'he misses'), and punctuation. Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the meaning remains clear throughout the essay. Because simple sentences are generally controlled while complex structures introduce frequent errors, the performance merits a Band 6.0.
