Student answer (Band 6.0)

Using cellphones while driving is very distracted activity. Therefore, some people argue that cell phone use during driving should be banned. I largely agree with this view as it has many disadvantages and risk associated with it. This essay will elaborate on why people should not use phones during driving and why it should be made illegal in the following paragraphs.

To start with, many proponents prefer to text and browes their phone when they are on driving seat. It can distract people meantally and end up having accidents. Those accidents can be life thretening for a drivers as well as passengers. Furthermore, some youngsters feel very confident when they are on the roads and they think that it is very easy to manage phone and driving. As a result they harm others on the roads. Overconfidence is very negative aspect during road trips.

Government should make it more strict by imposing some other rules as well such as, fines and temporarory licence cancellation. People need to understand the seriousness of the driving because many people can affect with just small distraction. However, people usually find hands-free devices like, bluetooth. It helps some people to stay conncetd on their phones and driving within the rules. I believe it can also distract people mentally. While talking to someone people gets totally involve in conversation and can miss important sing board and information board on the roads. For example, construction sign. People can not drive beyound certain limit in construction zone but a person on the phone can miss this board because he is fully involve in talking. This can be safety issue for many people on the road.

In conclusion, although people need their phones for everything in their life, I argue that they shuold not use at all while on the roads. It can cause serious problems for others. Government should ban phone use and imposed haevy fines.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position and supporting it with relevant ideas throughout the response. The introduction clearly states agreement with the proposition that cell phone use while driving should be made illegal. Main body paragraphs discuss the dangers of mental distraction, overconfidence among youngsters, and the inadequacy of hands-free devices like Bluetooth. However, some ideas are a bit repetitive and lack deep extension, particularly regarding how punishments like fines should be structured. The arguments presented are coherent and directly relevant to the prompt, fulfilling the core requirements of Band 6 well while pushing slightly towards Band 7 due to the clear position maintained from start to finish.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is organized into four distinct paragraphs with a clear overall logical arrangement. The student attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'Furthermore', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions between ideas. However, some of the referencing and linking is mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'When they are on driving seat' and 'However, people usually find hands-free devices like, bluetooth.' Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body points, and conclusion, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed due to minor errors in cohesive ties. These issues place the writing firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'proponents', 'distraction', 'overconfidence', and 'temporary licence cancellation'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'distracted activity' instead of 'distracting activity', 'browes' for 'browse', 'meantally' for 'mentally', 'thretening' for 'threatening', 'conncetd' for 'connected', and 'haevy' for 'heavy'. While these vocabulary errors are frequent and noticeable, they do not impede communication since the reader can easily grasp the intended meaning. This performance is characteristic of Band 6 lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative structures ('I largely agree with this view as it has many disadvantages...' and '...a person on the phone can miss this board because he is fully involve in talking'). There are, however, frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions, including 'on driving seat', 'are on the roads' (instead of on the road), 'many people can affect with just small distraction', and 'should not use at all'. Punctuation is also occasionally faulty, with unnecessary commas like 'devices like, bluetooth'. Despite these frequent errors, meaning is rarely obscured, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
