Student answer (Band 5.0)
In today's world, using mobile phones when operating a vehicle is dangerous because they can cause drivers to get distracted while driving. Therefore some people believe that cell phones use should be made illegal. I strongly agree with this statement as mobile phone use can result in severe accidents every day and vehicle will not maintain the speed limit while driving.
Firstly, when drivers constantly check their smartphone devices, they get distracted from driving. As a result, they may hit another vehicle and can severly poses dangerous situations . For instance, the accidents due to lack of distracted driving have been incresed singnificantly over the past decade.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response presents a clear position agreeing with the prompt, stating that mobile phone use while driving should be made illegal. However, the task is severely underdeveloped due to the extremely short length of only 107 words, falling well below the 250-word minimum requirement. The student mentions two main ideas—severe accidents and failure to maintain speed limits—but only attempts to develop the first point with a brief, repetitive example. Consequently, the response addresses the task only partially, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic logical organization with an introduction stating the writer's stance followed by a body paragraph introduced by 'Firstly'. However, the essay cuts off prematurely after only one body paragraph, making overall progression incomplete. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'As a result' and 'For instance', but referencing and logical flow are sometimes limited by the abrupt ending. Paragraphing is attempted, but the structure remains underdeveloped due to the severe lack of content.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, featuring appropriate terms such as 'distracted', 'severe accidents', and 'smartphone devices'. However, there are notable spelling errors, such as 'severly', 'poses', 'incresed', and 'singnificantly'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these errors and occasional awkward phrasing like 'cell phones use' restrict the lexical range and accuracy, aligning with a Band 5 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'when drivers constantly check their smartphone devices, they get distracted from driving.' There are, however, several grammatical and mechanical inaccuracies, including punctuation issues before commas, missing articles, and awkward phrasing like 'vehicle will not maintain the speed limit' and 'lack of distracted driving'. Despite these frequent errors, the meaning remains mostly clear to the reader.
