Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent decades, the counting of accidents has rapidly increasingly and most of these one happened due to using the phones while driving. Some people argue that strict laws should impose to avoid using cell phones especially while driving because it creates distraction. To large extent, i agree with this viewpoint because although individuals may lose focus on road if they use negligently while they also need phone to check GPS, and pick up urgent the calls.

One major reason of this prohibiting the mobiles during drive a vehicle is, the risk of losing control on vehicle is high. This is because sometimes talk on serious matters are being the result of losing concentration and if other driver already riduculously drive then the situation may be difficult to controll. For examply, on highways, the car and trucks usually has high speed and often others overtake others for arriving their destination on time. At that situation, if commuters busy on their phones, then it would be easy hit others when someone suddenly change his direction or line. Consequently, one person's mistake has to pay off by others. That'why using the phones should be evitable.

On the other side, searching the destinations and reaching to the right location, phones are important. This is because it is not sense to memorise all the routes then people can commute. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that cell phone use while driving should be made illegal due to distractions, while also acknowledging counter-arguments regarding GPS and music. The ideas are relevant and generally developed, such as discussing high-speed highways and the risks of losing concentration. However, the development of points is somewhat limited and the conclusion is abruptly cut off mid-sentence. The writer addresses all parts of the task, though the extension of ideas tends to be repetitive and lacks depth in places. This performance fits well within the Band 6 descriptor, where all parts are addressed and relevant ideas are presented, although some aspects lack full development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and distinct body paragraphs exploring the pros and cons of cell phone bans. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main arguments from the counter-arguments. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. Words like 'therefore', 'consequently', and 'in addition to this' are used, but referencing is sometimes unclear, and sentences like 'At that situation, if commuters busy on their phones' break the logical flow. Additionally, the abrupt ending affects the overall progression. These features align with the Band 6 descriptor, which notes a coherent overall arrangement with some faulty or mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general task, using terms such as 'distraction', 'commuters', and 'destination'. However, there are numerous word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'counting of accidents has rapidly increasingly' instead of 'increasing', 'strict laws should impose' instead of 'be imposed', and 'easy hit others'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with noticeable inaccuracy, and spelling issues occur. Despite these frequent lexical errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main message, placing the response firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating subordinating clauses such as 'although individuals may lose focus'. However, the text contains a high frequency of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including 'most of these one happened', 'talk on serious matters are being the result', and 'other driver already riduculously drive'. There are also tense inconsistencies and missing auxiliary verbs. These errors frequently strain the reader and obscure meaning at times, preventing the essay from reaching a higher band. The control of grammar is characteristic of Band 5, featuring a limited range of structures and frequent errors.
