Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position that mobile phone use while driving should be made illegal. The writer provides relevant ideas, such as how navigation, social applications, and calls distract drivers and lead to accidents, and supports them with statistical estimates like '12% to 14% of accidents derives into fatal crashes'. However, the development of ideas lacks full extension and clarity in places, as sentences tend to string multiple clauses together without sufficient elaboration. For instance, the transition from how distractions affect the mind to crossing signals is somewhat condensed. Nonetheless, the task is adequately addressed, aligning with the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct points, such as the general causes of distraction in the first body paragraph and penalties and statistics in the second. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. The writer relies heavily on basic transitional phrases like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusions', and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'which can cause accidents' or 'due to these things'. Additionally, sentence boundaries are blurred by excessive comma splices, which disrupts the logical flow and progression. Therefore, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'advancement', 'prominent reason', 'penalties', and 'fatal crashes'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation throughout the text. Examples include spelling errors like 'tehnology', 'completly', 'dsy', 'peole', and 'jepordize', as well as collocation issues like 'during the driving time' instead of 'while driving', 'derive their intellect', and 'addicted for phones' instead of 'addicted to phones'. These inaccuracies occasionally cause strain for the reader, placing the response firmly in the Band 5.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. The text contains numerous run-on sentences and comma splices, such as the opening sentence: 'With the advancement of tehnology people are completly relies on phones even while driving they utilize which can cause accidents...'. There are also frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms and agreements, such as 'countries has fines', 'if they find someone using phone', and 'accidents derives'. While the meaning can generally be deciphered, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.0 the most suitable assessment.
