Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years it has been seen that people are using their mobilephones while driving, and it is significantly dangerous since it leads to distraction. Therefore, it should be illegal to use phones for drivers. I firmly concur with this statement because this can result in serious accident and traffic as they are not focused in driving.
There are several reasons for this legal action. Individuals believe that it will not harm them or others as they use phones but we never know how it will affect them and other drivers. Although the purpose is genuine, you should not pick up call. Instead of that you can stop the car or bike and receive call if its urgent. When you do this while on driving it can lead to serious accidents, which does not only damages you but also the other people on road. Because of one's fault many people get injured. For example, If you are on the school road, and you get distracted then many of children may get hit by you.
Furthermore, traffic jam is the major problem in many countries like India. Public do not realise the sincerity of driving. Mostly, in narrow roads and villages which are not developed, we can see traffic. people have parked their vehicles on road, and there is no space for going further, and you see one car on road and the driver is busy on phone. This can result in more traffic.
In conclusion, despite the fact that call or work on may be urgent, you should not pick up while driving. As it can affect other passengers and drivers. I agree with this statement because accidents and traffic are major issues which can arise.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that mobile phone use while driving should be made illegal. The writer presents relevant arguments concerning safety risks and traffic disruption. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. For instance, the second body paragraph shifts rather abruptly from safety concerns regarding children near schools to a broader discussion of traffic jams in India, which makes the progression feel disjointed. While the main stance is clear throughout the essay, the arguments would benefit from greater extension and more precise examples rather than general assertions. Overall, the response meets the requirements for a Band 6.0 as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some areas remain underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic overall structure. Cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Although', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are employed to signal transitions between ideas. However, the logical progression between sentences and paragraphs is at times faulty. For example, the transition between discussing personal accidents and transitioning to traffic congestion in the third paragraph lacks a smooth logical bridge. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrase 'when you do this while on driving'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires better control to reach a higher band level, placing it comfortably at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate main ideas about driving distractions, accidents, and traffic jams. Words such as 'significantly', 'distraction', 'concur', and 'congestion' appear, showing an attempt to use less common items. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'pick up call' instead of 'answer a call', 'on driving' instead of 'while driving', and 'sincerity of driving' instead of 'seriousness of driving'. Spelling and word-choice errors occur, but they do not impede overall communication. The lexical range is sufficient for a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conjunctions like 'because', 'although', and 'despite the fact that'. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses. Examples include missing articles ('on road', 'many of children'), incorrect prepositions ('focused in driving'), and minor agreement issues ('many people get injured' vs 'does not only damages you'). Complex structures are often faulty or awkward, as seen in 'despite the fact that call or work on may be urgent, you should not pick up while driving.' Nevertheless, the errors rarely impede meaning, allowing the text to achieve a Band 5.5.
