Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is totally unsafe to use a mobile phone while driving because it diverts human attention from the road to the screen. Therefore, a law should be enforced to declare this practice illegal. I fully agree with the idea because road accidents are being increased due to this and it can be a primary cause of permanent disability.

It is impossible to focus and follow traffic rules while using a mobile while driving a vehicle. This distraction can easily become a reason of a dangerous collide on the road which can put lives of many people into risk. Resultantly, this unhealthy driving practice should be banned completely by the government. For example, according to the report of ICBC Canada 70 percent road collisions are direct result of looking at phone screen during drive.

Moreover, a person on driving seat is more injured after facing an accident and many of them face a permanent distality after a crash on the road. Having a disability can lead to loss of the job or carrier and put a person into financial difficulty also. For example, in a interview a famous orthopedic surgeon revealed that 70 percent of his patients lost their legs after road facing a road accident, and the reason they mentioned for accidents were using of phone while there were driving.

To conclude, using cellphone on a driving seat is a primary cause of many accident which results in loosing human lives or make them disable for upcoming life. So, it must be declared unlawful activity to reduce accidents and save more lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position throughout that you fully agree with banning mobile phone use while driving. You support this stance with relevant main ideas, such as the danger of traffic collisions and the risk of permanent disability. However, some of your ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, while you mention that accidents lead to financial difficulty and job loss, this point is introduced abruptly without sufficient elaboration. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure that every main idea is thoroughly explored with broader explanations and more deeply integrated supporting examples, moving beyond general statements to a more fully articulated discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

You present a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic, and your essay is appropriately divided into logical paragraphs that separate your main arguments regarding accidents and disabilities. You make use of cohesive devices to guide the reader, such as 'Therefore', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude'. However, the progression and referencing within your writing are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases can feel repetitive, and phrases like 'Resultantly, this unhealthy driving practice' show a slightly awkward mechanical link between sentences. To improve towards a higher level, you should aim for a more natural flow of ideas across sentences and paragraphs, ensuring that cohesive devices are used with greater flexibility and subtlety rather than relying on standard formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items related to the topic, such as 'permanent disability' and 'orthopedic surgeon'. However, your writing contains noticeable lexical errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling that reflect a limited and minimally adequate range. Examples include 'are being increased' instead of 'are increasing', 'dangerous collide' instead of 'collision', 'driving seat' instead of 'driver's seat', 'distality' instead of 'disability', and 'loosing' instead of 'losing'. Additionally, phrases like 'facing a road accident' and 'while there were driving' show weak collocational control. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your lexical repertoire, improve precision in word choice and collocations, and eliminate spelling and word-form errors that distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'It is impossible to focus and follow traffic rules while using a mobile while driving a vehicle.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede overall communication. You encounter occasional difficulties with prepositions, articles, and verb patterns, such as in 'in a interview' instead of 'in an interview', and 'for accidents were using of phone' instead of 'using phones'. You also have minor structural awkwardness in relative clauses and participial phrases, such as 'people into risk' instead of 'at risk'. To reach a higher level, you must increase your control over complex sentence patterns and produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences, particularly regarding prepositions and articles.
