Student answer (Band 6.0)
The wildspread use mobile phones while driving have been a major cause of accident due to distraction. Some argue that it should be totally banned of this reason. On the contrary, I disagree to a large extent because, people need to use their mobile devices incase of an emergencies and work related reasons
Admittedly, use of cell phones while driving has caused a considerable amount of highway accident. For several reasons, such as using one hand to make a call or browsing through the internet, this could make drivers absent minded and skip road warning signs which can potentially result in an accident. However, completely banning phone is impractical, due to the fact that, critical emergencies may need urgent attention. For example, a person driving can fall into a ditch at night in a lonely place far from any help, will need to call someone as a last resort. Therefore, governments can place strict measures the use of mobile gadgets on the road.
Furthermore, road users that depends on constant communication can use their handsets. Couriers rely on constant feedback from their drivers during deliveries of products. Truck drivers while on long distant travels, require 24 hours communication with their companies to ensure accurate dispatch. Consequently, the use of earphones practical.
In my opinion, the authority should not prohibit mobile phones but rather should sensitize motorist on the dangers and encourage them to use wireless bluetooth airpods on the road.
In conclusion, from my standpoint, I do not agree with making phones illegal. Although using cells while driving can be a potential hazard, it should be regulated in case of emergencies and as a means of working.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, arguing against a total ban while acknowledging safety hazards and proposing regulations. The ideas are generally relevant, but some are slightly under-developed or touch upon generalisations, such as the mention of couriers and truck drivers in the third paragraph, which could be explained more thoroughly to fully reach a higher tier of extension and support. To move further up, every main idea requires deep, fully elaborated reasoning rather than broad assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic running through each paragraph. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical, with transitional words such as 'Therefore', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently' applied in a somewhat formulaic manner. Referencing is mostly clear, but progression can feel abrupt between sentences. To achieve a stronger flow, the writer should integrate ideas more smoothly using subtler referencing and varied cohesive devices rather than relying heavily on basic linkers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's meaning. There are attempts to use less common items, such as 'absent minded', 'impractical', and 'sensitize', but these are accompanied by some word choice errors and awkward phrasings like 'banned of this reason' or 'road users that depends'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'wildspread' instead of 'widespread' and 'distant' instead of 'distance', alongside minor slips like 'emergencies'. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, placing the lexical range firmly in the mid-range band, where vocabulary is sufficient for basic clarity but lacks precision and sophisticated stylistic control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting multi-clause structures such as conditional and concessive clauses. However, there are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'The wildspread use mobile phones... have been' and 'road users that depends', missing articles in 'banning phone', and prepositions inside patterns such as 'disagree to a large extent because, people...'. While these errors occasionally cause the reader to pause, they rarely impede communication. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to eliminate basic agreement errors and exercise tighter control over complex sentence patterns.
