Student answer (Band 5.5)
I strongly agree that mobile phone should be illegal during. Mobile phone are one of the major reason of road accidents bacause while using mobile drivers gets distracted and they cannot concentrate fully on the driving and this results to accidents. One of my uncle was driving a car and we were traveling to another city to visit our relatives . The journey was going smoothly and suddenly my uncle phone started ringing and he pick the phone and talking to the caller and while a was talking on phone suddenly a motorbike appear on the other side of the road and my uncle did not saw the motorbike because his attentions was on the call and unfortunately the car hit the motorbike but luckily the rider remained safe with minor injuries. After witnessing the tragic incident,I am in a stronly favour of mobile baning while driving, when driver drive with full attention they will drive safely because their attention will be on the road and in this way the number of road accidents will be decreased. Here, I can qoute another example of careless driving and the main reason of careless driving was using mobile to connect to car music system . I was with my group of students and we were traveling to northern areas of Pakistan while we was on the road driver started to connect his mobile to the bus music system while connecting the bus coalided with the road bariers and luckily he managed to control the bus. And thanked to God we remained safe. So after giving somes examples I strongly agree that mobile phone should be decaled illegal while driving.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear and consistent position in strong agreement with banning mobile phone use while driving. Relevant ideas are presented, such as driver distraction leading to a loss of concentration and potential accidents. To support this position, the writer uses personal and observational experiences involving an uncle and a bus driver. However, while the main position is clear and the arguments are generally relevant, some ideas feel repetitive rather than fully extended, reflecting a typical performance where the main task is covered adequately but development remains somewhat limited in places. The ideas successfully meet the core requirements of addressing the prompt while showing a few areas where deeper elaboration would push the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some overall organisation, with a clear introduction and conclusion framing the writer's stance. However, there is a distinct lack of proper paragraphing, as the entire body of the essay is presented as one massive block of text. Cohesive devices are also handled inadequately; the text relies heavily on repetitive conjunctions like "and" and "while" to link clauses, creating a run-on sentence structure that disrupts the logical progression of ideas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as shifting abruptly between anecdotes without clear signposting. To improve, the writer needs to break the essay down into distinct paragraphs—such as separating the introduction, distinct body examples, and conclusion—and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "distracted", "tragic incident", and "barriers", but these attempts are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and collocation. Examples include spelling errors like "bacause", "decaled", "somes", and "qoute", alongside grammatical word choices such as "baning" instead of "banning" and "coalided" instead of "collided". These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips occur frequently throughout the text and cause some difficulty for the reader, preventing the response from achieving a higher level of lexical control. Developing a firmer grasp of spelling rules and word forms will be essential for future progress.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on lengthy, coordinated sentences joined by "and" rather than a controlled mix of simple and complex forms. When complex sentence structures are attempted, they are frequently faulty, leading to run-on sentences with missing punctuation. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the response, such as "mobile phone should be illegal during", "my uncle phone", "his attentions was", and "while we was on the road". These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty for the reader and occasionally obscure the intended meaning. Focusing on sentence boundary control and basic agreement rules will greatly improve structural accuracy.
