Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 107 words, which significantly restricts task completion. While the writer attempts to address the prompt by expressing a view on cell phone use while driving, the ideas are presented in a very minimal and tangential manner. The position on the issue is signaled informally through phrases like 'so today i am talking about', but it lacks the necessary extension and development required for a complete argument. Key concepts such as safety risks and legal consequences are mentioned superficially rather than explored with relevant examples or supported reasoning. To reach a higher level, the writer must ensure the essay meets the required word count, presents a fully developed position, and expands on main ideas with coherent arguments and specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The text lacks clear overall progression and logical organisation. The response is written as a single, run-on paragraph without appropriate paragraph breaks or standard essay formatting. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and mechanical, relying heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' or conversational openings like 'so today'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas—for instance, expressions such as 'another one is hiting him' create ambiguity regarding who is being referred to. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer should structure the response into distinct paragraphs with an introduction, body, and conclusion, while using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive links to connect sentences and ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily relying on simple words and phrases such as 'sellphone' (misspelled consistently), 'driving', 'dangerous', and 'good'. There are frequent spelling and word-form errors that strain the reader, including 'hiting', 'mambers', 'arepunished', 'pilice', and 'selphone'. The range of vocabulary is limited to everyday conversational language, lacking the flexibility and less common lexical items required to discuss a social issue effectively. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, learn correct spellings for common terms, and incorporate precise lexical choices and collocations suited to formal writing tasks.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting almost entirely of poorly constructed simple sentences linked by coordinating conjunctions. There is a complete lack of complex sentence structures. Errors are frequent throughout the text, involving verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and awkward prepositions, such as in 'Sellphone is not use while driving' and 'sellphone using time we are not seeing in road'. Punctuation is virtually absent, with the entire response functioning as a single run-on sentence separated only by lowercase letters. To improve in this criterion, the writer must demonstrate control over basic grammatical structures, use correct verb forms and punctuation, and attempt a mix of complex sentences with greater accuracy.
