Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt that cell phone use while driving should be made illegal. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the deterrent effect of legislation and the reduction of accidents, fulfilling the requirements for the mid-bands. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the general mention that drivers forget to follow traffic rules. To reach a higher level, the arguments would need deeper extension and more fully articulated examples rather than relying on generalised statements about safety measures and collisions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that guides the reader through the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Ostensibly', 'Predominantly', and 'Furthermore', but their application can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly awkward within the sentence flow. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional transitional lapses appear, such as 'To elaborate it, since legislation implement'. Achieving a higher band would require more natural, seamless transitions and a more sophisticated management of cohesive relationships between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'contemporary era', 'legislation', 'rigorous actions', and 'catastrophic circumstances'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling that reflect a mid-level band profile. Examples of these errors include 'strongly agreement views', 'Predominanlty', 'srtingent', 'escaped', 'dint of overuse', and 'inculcate others innocent individuals'. While communication is maintained despite these flaws, frequent word-choice and spelling slips prevent the writing from achieving a higher lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors. There are noticeable issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'drivers can divert their mind when they use phones during driving', 'legislation implement', 'As result', and 'since law has introduced'. Errors in grammar and punctuation occur with some frequency and occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they do not completely impede overall communication. A higher band would require a greater proportion of error-free sentences and tighter control over complex grammatical structures.
