Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that usage of mobile phones while driving is extremely dangerous. It should be prohibited by the government. But for some context, it shoud not completely ban and there are many reasons behind this. This essay will describe the merits and demerits related to this issue.
To begin with a advantage of using cell phone while driving is, google maps.
Nowaday, private transport service becomes popular, because of its convenience. Therefore, the google maps help a lot in pick and drop service. Consequently, a drive follows the map through smart phone, if it will be banned or made illegal, he/she would not reach at their location easily. So, in this context the mobile phones should be allowed to them.
Secondly, texting and calling during driving should be prohibited b the government. There should be a rule impose on the public, that if they need to call someone or have any emergency, they should stop the car on a safe area then use their phones. Due to the usage of mobile, people faced many big problems, it is very unsafe practice. Moreover, the government make rules in which they mention limitations. For instance, using maps are allow but texting or calling is not. This rule will reduce the accidents, that happens from using of cell phones.
Eventually, making rules for the public can save people lives and they are crucial for any country. Many developed countries follow strict rule regarding driving. If any person did not follow the rule, he/she bares huge amount of tickets.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a partial agreement regarding cell phone use while driving, but the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. Although the writer attempts to present a position by distinguishing between navigation usage and texting/calling, the overall argument lacks depth and clear structure. The introduction briefly mentions merits and demerits, but the body paragraphs shift focus rather abruptly, leading to a position that is not entirely clear throughout the entire essay. To reach a higher level, the writer should fully develop each main idea with robust explanations and specific supporting details, ensuring a more cohesive and comprehensive exploration of the prompt's core question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation present in the essay, including a basic attempt at paragraphing, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or over-used, such as the repetitive use of transitions like 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Eventually'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'if it will be banned' where the antecedent is ambiguous. While the essay is divided into distinct paragraphs, the internal flow between sentences feels mechanical. To improve, the writer needs to ensure that logical links between ideas are managed smoothly and that each paragraph transitions naturally into the next to guide the reader seamlessly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('shoud', 'Nowaday', 'allow'), awkward word forms ('a drive' instead of 'a driver', 'bares' instead of 'pays'), and imprecise collocations that cause some difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts at less common items are either misspelled or misused. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to word forms and spelling, and use terms more accurately in context to express complex ideas with greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, and agreements, such as 'it shoud not completely ban', 'if they need to call someone... they should stop... then use', and 'accidents, that happens'. Punctuation errors and awkward prepositions also persist throughout the text. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should practice forming complex sentences accurately, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and refine verb patterns to reduce the density of basic grammatical mistakes.
