Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear in the opening: “I strongly agree,” and you give two relevant reasons—preventing accidents and improving driving behaviour. The examples about missing traffic lights and receiving a call also relate to the question. However, the response addresses the task only partially because both reasons are briefly stated rather than explained and supported in depth. The second example is cut off (“For example, eliminating mobile phones while dr”), leaving the argument unfinished. The response also contains 158 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough development to fully answer the prompt. Extend each point with a specific explanation or realistic example, and complete the essay with a conclusion that restates your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction followed by two body paragraphs, each beginning with a sequencing phrase such as “Firstly” or “Secondly.” This helps the reader identify your two main reasons. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear because ideas are compressed together, as in “focus on their journey without any distractions results control in speed.” Some linking words, including “This is because” and “Furthermore,” are used mechanically, and the final example stops mid-sentence, disrupting the overall flow. To improve, give each paragraph a clear topic sentence, develop one idea at a time, and use linking expressions only where they show a genuine relationship. Add a complete conclusion to make the essay feel finished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “distracted,” “traffic lights,” “pedestrians,” “penalties,” and “traffic rules,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main points. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the message difficult to follow. For example, “motorists motor the vehicles” is unnatural, while “safety drive” and “control in speed” do not express your intended meanings clearly. There are also spelling and form errors such as “avioids” and “maynot.” Build a more precise set of collocations for road safety and phone use, and check spelling and word forms. Prefer clear phrases such as “drivers operate vehicles” and “maintain control of their speed.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some complex sentences using “because,” “while,” and “without,” but the range is limited and many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas unclear. For instance, “driving is dangerous using cell phone should be made illegal” lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “they can concentrate on driving only, prevents injuries” shifts from a plural subject to a singular verb without a proper clause connection. Other examples include “helps to improves” and “Receiving call while driving leads accidents,” which show problems with verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Use shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses carefully. Check that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and review agreement, articles, and punctuation before submitting.
