Student answer (Band 6.0)

The frequent use of mobile phones while driving is becoming life threatning as it completely takes away the focus of a driver. This is ultimately pushing people to think about certain rules and regulations to be implimented by law againist such irresponsible activities. I completely agree with this statement because it is not only affecting the people on road but also eqally risky for the using the phone while driving.

The primary reason for implementations of stricter rules against such cases are mainly the youngsters. They are not in involved in such reckless activities but are also promoting, and influencing others by posting driving and road stories online on varoius social media platforms.Hence, they donot fear death and take all risky measures such as using immense loud music on their cell phones and even some are found communicating and texting along which is therefore becoming a threat to society.

Probing further, adults are found more involved in cases that are in context with attending frequent phone calls while driving to their work place or back home. Some individuals donot make to their work station on time and end up opting hasty measures such as driving and calling their collegues or boss which could put their lives and other at risk.As increased stress makes you more wooried, anxious and subsequently makes it difficult to concentrate while driving.Hence, this could lead to life threatening incidents for both people on road and the one driving itself.

Although, phone has become a necessasity of life but its appropraite usage at times should be take into consideration and government should impose all required safety measures regarding its usage while driving, making the roads much safer place to commute .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: “I completely agree,” and the conclusion returns to the need for government safety measures. You also address the danger to both drivers and other road users, with separate discussion of young people and adults. These relevant points meet the task well. However, the support is uneven: the claims about young people posting driving stories and using loud music are not clearly connected to phone distraction, while the example of adults calling work is more directly relevant but remains general. To strengthen the response further, explain how a legal ban would reduce these risks and develop one or two examples with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning. The position is present, but some ideas need fuller, more precise support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different groups of drivers, and a concluding recommendation. This gives the reader an overall route through your argument. Linking expressions such as “The primary reason,” “Probing further,” and “Although” also signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Hence” introduces a consequence after the discussion of young people without making the link fully explicit, and the sentence beginning “As increased stress…” is not smoothly connected to the preceding point. The final paragraph also shifts from acknowledging phones as necessary to supporting safety measures without clearly resolving that contrast. Use clearer topic sentences and make each paragraph’s central claim and supporting explanation follow in a more direct sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “distracted,” “reckless activities,” “safety measures,” and “concentrate,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also some less common expressions, such as “hasty measures,” though the phrasing is not always natural. Several spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision, including “life threatning,” “implimented,” “againist,” “eqally,” and “necessasity.” Phrases such as “immense loud music” and “make to their work station” are also awkward or unclear. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main argument, but they make the writing less fluent. Focus on accurate spelling and natural collocations, and choose precise terms such as “use a phone,” “make it to work,” and “excessively loud music.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because it is not only affecting…” and a concession introduced by “Although.” The main argument is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems make parts of the response difficult to follow. For example, “the primary reason … are” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “not only affecting … but also eqally risky for the using the phone” is not formed as a balanced construction. The sentence beginning “As increased stress makes you…” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence, while “the one driving itself” has unclear reference. Review agreement, complete-sentence structure, and parallel forms, and break up long sentences where needed to make relationships between clauses clear.
