Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, it is extremely dangerous to make use of a cell phone while driving becuase it can cause a lot of havoc, majorly loss of life and properties, therefore the use of cell phones by drivers should be prohibited. i do not agree that the use of cell phones should be made illegal, i will further express my reasons in my essay.

To begin, although cell phones have their negative aspects. it is very normal for drivers to pick calls while driving, this can be extremely dangerous to their lives. for example it can cause accidents which will involve loss of life and properties and a cause of tears forever for their family memebers. Again, picking calls while driving is totally violating the traffic rules of the country and this can land such individual in jail and might have to pay a heavy fine.

However, i do not accept that the use of cell phones by drivers should be made illegal, because there are more than a thousand reasons why drivers pick calls while driving, it can be due to an emergency call from home, work or even at the schools of their children. some people have failed to pick important calls while driving and this has in turn caused them the lives of their loved ones who were in the hospital and needed a blood donor immediately. Cell phones should also not be made illegal for drivers becuase it can cost them their jobs if they do not attend to a call immediately from their bosses who is not sure if they have gotten to their destinations yet.

Moreover instead of banning cellphones for drivers, they can asked to all get earphones or always put their phones on speakers while driving, this will reduce any form of distractions.

IIn Conclusion, though it is believed that the use of cell phones by drivers cuses more har than good, i do not beleive that it should be made illegal for drivers instead they should be cautioned and profer a solution to the what seems like a problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear overall view that cell-phone use while driving should not be made illegal, and you offer reasons involving emergencies, family members in hospital, and work calls. However, the response only partially addresses the issue because it does not adequately weigh the danger of distraction against these reasons. The opening even says use “should be prohibited,” which conflicts with your stated disagreement, and the conclusion does not resolve this contradiction. The examples are relevant but largely hypothetical and are not explained enough to show why they justify allowing drivers to use phones. Develop a consistent position and address safer alternatives, such as hands-free use or stopping before answering, with a clear explanation of their limits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has an introduction, two main body sections and a conclusion, so the reader can identify its broad structure. You also use signposts such as “To begin,” “However” and “Moreover.” Nevertheless, progression is uneven: the first body paragraph describes the dangers and legal consequences, while the next shifts to reasons for answering calls without clearly connecting these points to your position. The opening contradicts the thesis, and the conclusion repeats the view without bringing the arguments together. Some linking is mechanical, and several ideas are joined in long sentences, making relationships less clear. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, explain how its example supports that claim, and use transitions that show the precise contrast or consequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “distracted,” “emergency,” “traffic rules,” “heavy fine” and “banning,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “a cause of tears forever,” but this is not a natural collocation and makes the meaning less precise. Other choices, including “havoc,” “properties” for possessions, and “cautioned” in the conclusion, are imprecise or awkward in context. Spelling errors such as “becuase,” “memebers,” “cuses” and “beleive” are noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than dramatic wording, and proofread spelling. More precise vocabulary would help you explain the risks and alternatives clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “although,” “because” and “if.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence boundaries, punctuation and sentence construction sometimes make the argument difficult to follow. For example, “To begin, although cell phones have their negative aspects. it is very normal…” leaves an incomplete clause followed by a new sentence, while “Moreover instead of banning…, they can asked…” has an incorrect verb form and unclear construction. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “i,” and the conclusion contains several punctuation problems. Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, check subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and use full stops and commas to separate ideas accurately.
