Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some Individuals believe that the government is should provide free education to anyone who wants it and also responsible for running universities. I uphold a strong belief for this conviction reason which will be expanded in the following approaching sections.
The most prominent reason is social and economic equality .To elaborate this, high tuition fee blocks the talent of students from who does not belong to affluent families. As a result they are not able to continue with their higher studies. For instance, In some countries like Germany where they offer equal opportunities and free higher education regardless of family wealth. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 187 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the conclusion is incomplete and the arguments are underdeveloped. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the supporting points regarding social equality and a skilled workforce lack sufficient depth and specific examples to fully explore the topic. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure the essay is completed in full, including a proper concluding paragraph that summarizes your main arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'The most prominent reason is...', 'To elaborate this...', 'Another reason for is...'). The progression of ideas is logical, but the abrupt ending of the final sentence indicates a lack of control over the overall flow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next, rather than relying on formulaic phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'affluent families' and 'national productivity,' but there are also instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'blocks the talent of students' and 'another reason for is highly skilled workforce.' The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. Expanding your range of collocations and synonyms will help you express your ideas with more sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the government is should provide,' 'students from who does not belong,' and 'if country has.' These errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage are noticeable. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these slips prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading your work to correct basic errors in tense, articles, and sentence construction.
