Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free university education. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. The arguments regarding social mobility and tax utilization are relevant but lack depth and specific examples. Furthermore, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the argument as required by the task. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and concrete examples, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To explicate it' and 'Last but not least'. There are also issues with referencing and logical flow between sentences. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'vary nations' instead of 'various nations' and 'retreate' instead of 'reiterate'. Additionally, the repetition of basic words like 'help' and 'good' limits the sophistication of the writing. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to express your ideas more precisely and avoid repetitive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('taxes is one of the biggest source'), article usage ('the all expenses'), and verb tense/form errors ('after be graduated', 'helpthem to get jabs'). These errors occasionally impede the flow of reading. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles, before attempting more complex structures.
