Student answer (Band 7.0)
Education is a powerful tool which can be used to upgrade the society. Some people argue that ministry should pay for the cost of university education and it will be free for everyone. I strongly agree with this statement as free education will provide the opportunity to underprivileged students to access free education. On the other hand, government funding can be utilized for other important purposes as well.
To begin with, when government will pay for the cost of university education, it will be beneficial for every student, especially those who are not wealthy. They can get free education and upgrade their skills and knowledge. Therefore, it will help them to grow in their lives. For example, there is a non-profit organization called “Care” which provides free college education to underprivileged girls. It has reported that thousands of girls were able to get education and find jobs to support their families. Secondly, when government will provide free university education, more people will get educated. They can contribute to the economy by earning more income and paying taxes,. Therefore, it is beneficial for the government as well.
On the other side, government funding could be utilized for other significant areas such as healthcare, infrastructure development and retirement benefits. These areas are equally important and can benefit the society to improve their lives.
In conclusion, if the government provides free education, it will not only benefit the poor society to get educated but also help the government to receive more tax revenue. However, government funding should be utilized for other priorities as well. Therefore, proper budget planning should be done before allocating funds to any sector.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all parts of the task and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. You successfully argued for the benefits of free education while acknowledging the counter-argument regarding government budget constraints. The ideas are relevant and supported by a specific example (the 'Care' organization). To reach a higher band, ensure that your development is more balanced; while you acknowledge the counter-argument, your conclusion could more explicitly reconcile the two sides rather than simply stating that 'proper budget planning' is needed. Overall, your response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Secondly,' and 'On the other side' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated referencing and substitution to avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'underprivileged,' 'infrastructure development,' and 'allocating funds' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic words like 'education' and 'government' frequently. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise synonyms or collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'pay for the cost,' you could use 'subsidize tertiary education' or 'alleviate the financial burden on students.' Your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, particularly with article usage (e.g., 'upgrade the society' should be 'upgrade society') and verb tense consistency (e.g., 'when government will pay' should be 'when the government pays'). There is also a punctuation error in the second paragraph with a comma followed by a period. To improve, focus on mastering conditional structures and subject-verb agreement. Despite these errors, your writing remains easy to follow and communication is not impeded.
