Student answer (Band 6.5)
It's widely believed that it is the duty of the Government to under take the cost of running universities so that a university education will be totally free for anyone who wants it.
Education plays an important role in the development of a country, and as such I strongly believe it's right for the government to cover the cost of running the university and to make it absolute free for anyone who wants to attend, since most of the graduate end up working for the government directly or indirectly.
Given that the government expects every of her citizens to be pay their taxes and be law abiding, it's equally right for the citizens to expert some level of benefits from the government. so if the government run a free education program up to the university level, it will not only make her citizens to be law abiding but they will also have some level of faith on the the people their elected to represent then at all levels.
Secondly for a smooth running of every government, there is needs for every sector of the economy to be maned by a well trained and competent individual, and so it's morally just for the government to invest massively in education since all she is doing will be an investment into her own future as a nation, by making sure that the right people for the job are well trained at not extra cost
In conclusion, given that the government is not a single individual rather a leadership of the people by the people and for the people, I strongly believe that the government should pay for the running of the universities so that it will be free for anyone who wants it as that will be of great benefit to both the government and the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas presented—such as the economic benefits of a trained workforce and the social contract between government and citizens—are relevant to the prompt. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that graduates work for the government, you could have expanded on how this specifically justifies free tuition versus other funding models. The response addresses all parts of the task, but the arguments could be more thoroughly supported with specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices like 'Secondly' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by mechanical phrasing and repetitive structures. For example, the transition between the idea of tax-paying citizens and the expectation of benefits could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'her' to refer to the government, which is not standard in this context. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'competent individual' and 'morally just'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'under take the cost' (undertake), 'absolute free' (absolutely free), and 'maned by' (manned by). These errors occasionally distract the reader but do not impede overall communication. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that word forms (adjectives vs. adverbs) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('most of the graduate end up', 'there is needs') and punctuation errors, such as missing commas and incorrect capitalization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence structure will help improve your score.
