Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position in favor of free university education. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you mention the role of the government and provide a specific example regarding scholarship schemes in Pakistan, the arguments are often repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the connection between 'might is right' policies and education is unclear and does not directly support the main argument. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained point with clear supporting evidence, rather than listing several loosely connected ideas. The response meets the minimum length requirement, but the depth of analysis needs to be more focused to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. It is written as a single block of text, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. Paragraphing is essential in IELTS writing to separate different arguments. Furthermore, the use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical. Phrases like 'when the govt. work on' or 'today in pakistan' are used to transition between ideas, but they do not create a smooth flow. To improve, use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') to connect your sentences and ideas logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There is a reliance on simple, repetitive language (e.g., 'govt', 'education', 'money'). Some word choices are awkward or incorrect, such as 'tear apart' or 'ruler area' (likely meaning 'rural area'). There are also frequent spelling and punctuation errors, such as 'analys' instead of 'analyze' and the inconsistent use of abbreviations like 'pm'. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to education and government policy, and pay closer attention to spelling and formal word choices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'govt. collect taxes'), article usage (e.g., 'the individuals life'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making the text feel fragmented. While there is an attempt to use complex ideas, the lack of control over basic grammar limits the clarity of the message. To improve, focus on mastering simple sentence structures first, ensuring correct verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
