Student answer (Band 6.0)

Education place a crucial role in everybody's life and it should be a fundamental right for every human being. It has become a debatable topic that the government should invest and cover the universities expense so that university education becomes free for those who in need. I partially agree with this view. Although it provides benefits to miserable students, it can raise several issues.

On the one hand, if the government will invest in educational institutes underprivileged children can get opportunities to learn which could help them in succeeding in future. Because many families are not able to afford substantial enrollment fee and cost of educational material due to low income. Therefore, the funding from governments would be an effective way to not only improve educational system but also it helps needy children to obtain education.

On the other hand, I believe that government should cover the basic expenses such as to improve sports system and other extra curricular activities which mainly affects the overall growth and well-being of students. Also, this is the responsibility of universities to provide scholarship opportunities to students on basis of their academic performance as well as the financial situation of family. Apart from this, some affluent people can take advantage of this option which will lead to raise the issues rather than mitigate it. Thus, it should only be available for those who are actually in need.

In conclusion, despite funding from the government for educational institutes would be the effective way to provide education to deprived children, it may lead to several issues such as misuse of funds. As a result, there should a specific program to assist only those children who are in need.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear, partial position. You have identified both the benefits of free education for the underprivileged and the potential drawbacks, such as the misuse of funds by affluent individuals. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'sports system' in the second body paragraph is slightly tangential to the core issue of university tuition costs. To reach a higher band, ensure that every supporting point directly reinforces your central argument about funding, and provide more specific, concrete examples to illustrate your points rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure of your argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas could be smoother. For example, the transition in the final paragraph is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this option') is always precise will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fundamental right,' 'underprivileged,' and 'mitigate.' There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'universities expense' (should be 'university expenses') and 'lead to raise the issues' (should be 'lead to increased issues'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a higher level of sophistication and flexibility in your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several recurring grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Education place a crucial role' should be 'plays'), missing articles ('the government' vs 'governments'), and awkward phrasing ('there should a specific program' should be 'there should be'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
