Student answer (Band 6.0)

Undoubtedly, in this globalized era few individuals believes that the legal authority should cover the cost of all the universities expenses and make the university education free for all the learners. I largely agree with this statement as free education provide opportunity for the poor children and contribute to the economy which I will be further elaborated in the forthcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, the first and foremost reason behind free education as it will easy to access for everyone. This is how, in this competitive era, students who live below poverty line cannot able to receive the proper education because of the low level income of the family. For example, talented students with high grades in the higher school cannot able to receive the higher education due to the financial condition of the family. Thus, by providing free education by the government it will create al numerous opportunity to the students.

Furthermore, the another motive behind the free cost of education is the graduates from the university will be beneficial for the nation. This is why, as in this current era, if the legal entity provides a free education to their students they can be developed a talented workforce for the country. For an instance, if government provide free education to the students they will be further contribute to the nation. As a result, with subsidies in the tuition cost leads to the skilled workforce to the country.

In opposite to this, if the legal body provides all the grants for education then it might be affect to their budget. This is how, as government spend all the subsidies to the education then other sector will remain undeveloped. For example, instead of providing completely free education authorized body should make cost of fees affordable to all the students. Hence, by making education affordable, government could focus for the development of the other areas.

In conclusion, I largely agree with the free education as it provide opportunity to the poor students and they also contribute to the nation by receiving better education. However, asking students to pay small amount so they are more value to the education that they receive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of a skilled workforce and the economic burden on the government. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and third paragraphs where the same points about 'talented workforce' and 'contribution to the nation' are restated. The counter-argument is well-integrated, though the conclusion introduces a new point about students valuing education more if they pay, which was not fully explored in the body paragraphs. Overall, the ideas are sufficiently extended to meet the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these transitions are used mechanically or incorrectly, such as 'This is how' or 'This is why', which do not always logically connect the preceding sentence to the following one. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. Despite these issues, the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, though it lacks sophistication. The student uses some repetitive phrasing, such as 'legal authority' and 'legal entity' to refer to the government, which is slightly unnatural in this context. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'higher school' instead of 'high school' and 'al numerous opportunity'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('few individuals believes'), incorrect verb forms ('cannot able to receive'), and awkward sentence construction ('it will easy to access'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent and demonstrate a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures. Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
